Even with auto-sprint off... it doesn't feel like sprint has any effect.

I use the team with the best running back in the game and I also play with auto-sprint off. I loved it when it was introduced but the game never properly understands when to give you a boost or not.

Anyways, I'm not seeing any effect with the sprint button held down. Actually, I almost feel like you run better/faster without holding down the sprint button. Yes, I'm not someone who holds down the sprint button 100% of the time, I only use it in open space once my lead blockers have down their job.

I haven't tried it with the speed burst off because I really wasn't a fan of the speed burst to begin with. I get where you are coming from regarding the athlete choosing when to turn it on though.

It's because of sucktion tackling, when you press turbo, it triggers the computer to get a speed boost to catch up to you. If you run up the middle, and press turbo to hit the hole, the linemen will break-off their blocks, teleport to you, and tackle you.
They overhauled the passing game with passing trajectories and new catching animations this year, hopefully next year they will overhaul on the running and blocking game.

Try it yourself and see, turn auto-turbo off, do a run up the middle play and press turbo when you get to the hole, I bet you get hit as soon as you press it. Or just do any running play, you'll see.

i have been playing with sprint off for years and have never seen this and all i do is run the ball and do it pretty well
