Carolina acquires Bryan Bickell and Teuvo Teravainen from Chicago for a 2016 2nd round pick and 2017 3rd round pick.

Wow. That's a hefty price to pay to unload Bickell's contract.

Everybody knew even before it was given to him that Bickell's contract was complete nonsense. No surprise the Blackhawks had to give up a valuable piece like Teravainen in order to get rid of it.

Bickell was a good player for the Hawks but yeah, that contract was just totally out of line for what he does.

The NHL seems to be the one league where if you have a hot streak you can almost guarantee a ridiculous big money contract.

Hate to lose Teuvo but there was a good chance the Hawks were losing one of him or Panarin next offseason and Panarin is definitely the more valuable piece.

Good move for the Hurricanes, one year of Bickell is a small price to pay for a talent like Teravainen.

*Edit - I'll add, I hope they don't overpay Shaw as a result of this but I have a feeling they will. Definitely shouldn't get more than 3 mil per and even that is going to be a tight squeeze with the cap.

Hurricanes have a done a good job acquiring talent the past two seasons. If they could get a goalie and a top 6 forward, they could be a playoff team.

EDIT: I spoke too soon, they brought back Cam Ward. Bleh.

Reminds me of when the Braves included Kimbrel to get rid of that garbage loser BJ Upton.

Obviously Teravainen isn't on "Kimbrel"-level hockey-wise but still. Tough to give that piece just to rid yourself of trash.
