Tony Hawk Ride: Will it be a gold mine or bust ?

The original skateboarder videogame person Tony Hawk is back after a 2 year lay off. Tony Hawk is what many consider the godfather of the skate board videogame market. Were their skate boarding video games before him ? Yes, but none of them were successful.

Tony Hawk enjoyed dominance in this emerging market for years. Never ever got serious competition from anybody until Skate came out a couple of years ago. So what did Tony Hawk do, he sat down and reinvented himself and his game.

Now not only is Tony Hawk coming out with a new game, he is coming out with a new controller to go with it. This isn't your standard controller either, it is a controller in the shape of a skateboard, that you stand on and play the game with. And yes this is the ONLY way you can play the game. Can't use a regular controller.

This controller pretty much uses the same technology of the Wii's Wave board and the Wii remote. Which is motion sensing technology. In the era of guitar shaped controllers, drum shaped controllers from games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero, the market for innovative controls is booming.

There really seems to be a thirst among consumers to become totally interactive with videogames. This can be clearly seen with the booming success of the Wii Wave Board and Wii sports.

So will this skateboard controller pay off huge for Tony Hawk or will it be a nail in the coffin for his long and famous videogame series ? Only time will tell.
