Writing styles & approaches
Posted on June 4, 2009 at 05:00 PM.
I’ve been writing for OS since September. Since the very beginning, I have been writing to the most informed and schooled fan base of the sports gaming communities. You are all experts when it comes to sports games. I am here writing because I am an expert on sports games.

We know the nuances and the game play issues. We know the good, the bad, and the ugly. You all know what you want from a sports title. You want quality, attention to detail, realism, and fun.
My past few articles, I have been trying a more professional & journalistic style approach. Maybe I lost site of the conversation we all have on the forums on a day to day basis – the conversation that makes us experts in the first place. The fact that we can talk about minuscule details in great detail just shows how advanced this fan base really is. These details are so specific but they are understood and debated; it’s accepted. The demand for these things is what makes the OS community real unique. This is also the reason why I enjoy writing for this site and am putting in great efforts to move it forward to establish strong credibility within the game industry.

I guess, even if it was just a lil, I lost track a bit of what the community wants. One of the reasons why we have OS Arenas, and the Facebook page, is so you can inform me what specifically to look for in a game.

Keep in mind, this is me volunteering my service to you. I do this because I have a passion and love for sports and the games I grew up with. The Tiger Woods Review will be done right.

Thanks for all the feedback on OS and on Facebook. It’s improving my writing skills and it’s improving the site.

Sincerely,

-Steve Montani Bartlett

I wondered who ran the FB page. The purpose and direction of that page were unclear to me, but it's good to know who's behind it.

I agree that OS is great collection of sports minds, smart career types, and some pretty good writers. I'd like to see the level of discourse come up a couple of notches in some of the forums, but on the whole it's pretty good.

By the way, since you mentioned working on your writing, do you know Strunk & White's *Elements of Style*? It's super short and a classic. It will improve your writing tenfold. No joke. I use it all the time.

Keep it up!
