Re: Madden 10: Did EA Press Reset? (Joystiq)

I liked the fresh opinion. I've been tricked by the hype machine too many times to discount critical articles like this.

I do think EA tried to discredit their opinion by pointing out their misrepresentations, which were fairly insignificant in my opinion. The message is still the same - they weren't very impressed.

The guys who don't accept criticism always come out of the woodworks in these threads and start bashing the website... just funny to me . It's okay not to agree guys... part of life. Doesn't make them wrong, doesn't make you wrong.

The review probably doesn't apply too closely to us. From his casual sports gamer perspective, not much impresses him so far. That's' fine. I really think us hardcore gamers are in for a treat with this technology. It improves finer parts of the game, which we notice.

Good post, although I can almost guarantee the writer of this article has played more Madden and other sports simulations than almost any poster on this board. They know more about games, they play more, it's their job.

I really think that for madden to really begin to revolutionize it needs a two year development cycle. Being here at OS with daily interaction with the developers does make us bias and if you look at its from outsides perspective they are absolutely right. Heres what to do!

1. Release a new madden every 2 years!!

Pros -> More time leads to much more thought out and bigger features, atm big ticket items like pro-tak get split into sections to be developed in a 1 year cycle

-A free roster update for the second year would make fans feel rewarded for waiting 2 years and increasing replay ability

Cons -> Half the profit! Hence throwing this idea out the window no EA executive would have the guts to make that decision

2. 2 Development team like Call of duty

Pros -> More innovation every year, able to add true Sequel like features

Cons -> Higher cost

Who said a revolution of madden was easy? These are just big ideas IF they really want to think big! Take madden to a new level

Im concerned that this guy has been lurking here since 2006 and this is the first Ive seen him

.......wipes profile of all personal info..........

anyways, I really really wish people would wait until E3 until they pass judgement. I have been a madden basher, Ive cursed them and yada yada yada, Ian has earned his shot and i think we should give it to him. "his shot" is not a 2 minute video and Joystiq seems to want to know what they are talking about more than they actually know what they are talking about. my opinion of course.

Re: Madden 10: Did EA Press Reset? (Joystiq)

Honestly, this article says what many here are thinking. Nuff said on that. If Madden devs really want to show us something, show it on the field, as they say, not , in the talking. Much as Sam Raimi has rediscovered his true genius, I can only hope that the devs here are honestly trying to rediscover what made Madden great. All the talk and videos mean naught, unless the final product makes us forget the failures of the past. That is what I want. Hopefully, that is what you want, and even more hopefully, that is what we get. Anything less, will be failure in not just my eyes, but the eyes of many who have propped up this aging 800 pound gorilla for the past 20 years. Not trying to be mean or hateful, just saying how it is. And to the devs, if it is not perfect, and I do mean perfect, do you really think anyone will let you slide? Do you think anyone will accept less than THE GREATEST FOOTBALL GAME OF ALL TIME. Not just that, but, a game that will be called one of the greatest of all time? There is only one way to go on this, and, while I am 100% sure there will be a few that will once again accept less than mediocre, is there any way that you think that most will accept less than greatness? Once again, not trying to be mean, only saying one thing, the proof is in the pudding. If you can not make it great, then, maybe it should be put back until it is. EA has done it before, and, this is one of those years as well. In the immortal words of the true Jedi master, do, or do not, there is no try.

If Madden 2010 doesn't make me forget about 2k5, then...FAIL. I fully expect Ian and co. to deliver that or I'll pass until next year.

Five years to outdo a PS2 game is reasonable enough IMO.

Re: Madden 10: Did EA Press Reset? (Joystiq)

My way of looking at all this is the exact same as CNADA.

I wish we did have a new DISC VERSION of madden every 2 years with roster updates and pathces that address the current state of the game thruought the time would be great too. If there's a major cheat or glitch then it should be patched up and accounts reset at the beggining of the next football season.

But I really doubt this would work for EA seeing as theres not really too much you could add to the game besides that gameplay immersion and feel once its all said and done.

I would like a Madden 365 even though I havent played live in years, I hear that feature was very good and on point.

I give IAN and Co. credit they deserve for taking this into a new direction and I really hope it pays off in august. I for one just hate the online cheating and abuse that goes on day in and day out. I would like just an even playing field and let great playcalling be the determining factor for winning games and not some pause and audible glitch crap or QBs walking into the locker room glitch.

Oh and IAN, I dont want just a couple attempts at fixing issues with the game like you did for 09, I would like constant fixes and tweaks if and when needed. And please have someone monitoring cheaters and crap by having to force them into matches with moderators based off of feedback and records that look "to good to be true".
