Re: The Future of Basketball Gaming

The article was pretty flawed, IMO. I've got no problem with someone enjoying an arcade based title like NBA Jam, but it's ludicrous to say that those title's should be revered and improved, while sim titles like NBA Live and NBA 2K have reached their peak.

That's completely false since sim titles have a broader level of depth and realism to still aspire to and (hopefully) reach. There are so many aspects and nuances of the sport that still haven't been captured in any basketball title. I hope the developers don't buy into this sort of mindset and realize that their "hardcore" audience sees that big, huge improvements are still needed to be made.

To me, I see a ton of areas where improvements can be made, perhaps I should have become a developer so I actually could attempt to fix them but as that didn't happen I'll have to keep faith in the actual developers.

As far as 2k8 or 2k9 being better, I think absolutely not. I thought My Player was a great idea, it totally took me by surprise and definitely has potential. 2k10 has by far taken me the longest to get good at (compared to other 2k games), there's really so much to learn, from the post game to iso-motion to playing solid D. It's frustrating at first but oh so rewarding once you start seeing improvement.

I see the NBA jam thing as a rather smart move to capture some of the Wii crowd. Games like NBA jam are what the Wii excels at, Live simply wouldn't fly right so why bother?

Can't say I agree with the article at all.... Nice try though

I don't agree with many of the points you've made.

Not one of your best articles.

Honestly, "NBA 2K9 was a fantastic game"........it had no spacing, no ISOs, help D was completely butchered. No one left shooters regardless of who was penetrating.

Anyone claiming it was better than 2K10 just doesn't know basketball IMO.

2K10 improved (dramatically) on spacing.........brought in realistic ISO plays...and added improved help D considerably.

I agree with this. The AI, tendencies presentation and spacing is amazing in 2k10. Tons of animations. It's lightyears ahead of anything 2k has done in the past. Just the way the player models react and everything in between. The amount of control you have is awesome. It's just a bit clunky and buggy. It can still be improved dramatically.
