Those animations still need a lot of work. I wasn't impressed

Here's a realistic expectation. That Ian Cummings will be crying about all people who are taking a dump on his game after Madden 11 is released.

Re: Madden NFL 11 Exclusive Debut Trailer

I think overall it looks good thus far. As previously said, this stuff is from an alpha build. They certainly need to tighten up everything though.

What needs to be fixed/added:
  • This irked me the most. PLEASE fix receiver motion. Auto-motion routes; I don't mind them being in the game, but please mocap a couple new animations based on the pattern being run. The receiver flies off the line-of-scrimmage like a rocket. Not only does that look ugly, but it's unrealistic as all hell. The receiver typically either: a) jogs relatively slowly, or b) runs, but slows down to prepare for the snap so they can get into their route easier. And more often than not, as the receiver slows, he comes to a stop and faces the LOS. The same should go for anyone who snaps after they send a receiver in motion. If they snap it as the receiver is moving, have it play an animation like the auto-motion ones. (Anyone who's watched football knows what I mean by this)
  • I feel the players need to have a little more weight to them. By that, I don't mean size... I mean they need to look and feel like they're not hollow models running around. Not too much so that they all feel like they're lumbering, but enough to make it feel like gravity is keeping them on the ground. Maybe it's because they highlighted Bush... but he seemed a bit TOO light on his feet. Almost as if he was gliding.
  • Interaction between players bumping into each other would be nice. At around 17 seconds in, you can see Colston dart off the LOS (see first bullet), and then proceed to run into the LB like he's a brick wall. All you see is Colston slow down a bit. Also looks very ugly. A little push/bump would be nice. When you see someone run in place, it's sad. This isn't the Genesis/SNES days.
  • I see some blockers still look lost. If within the first 2 seconds they don't have someone to block, help double team the nearest threat or something. Seeing them dance around and continue to do nothing is also another ugly visual gameplay-wise.
  • When you're viewing your play, it would be fantastic if you could see which defender is where. Any NFL QB knows where Revis is lined up, or if Ray Lewis or Haynesworth is tired and taking a breather.
What I did like:
  • Running animations did look nicer. Just need to get them to seem more weighed down and it would be a nice improvement.
  • The catch near the sideline was nice. Glad to see those are in there. Hopefully it's tuned well though, so it isn't overdone in unnecessary situations.
  • Shockey made a nice block on his delayed route. I was expecting him to miss it altogether, but was very wrong.
  • Though a small touch, custom sock lengths does give the game a boost in authenticity.

Unfortunately I don't believe that will be the case.
It seems that this series will always have a loyal following no matter what is released.

The sad part of it all,to the little "johnny's" this game is the cat's meow, and will always appeal to someone.
I'm done dealing with mediocrity to get my football "fix".

No, but they are trying to convince us that a feature that was tailor made for new users (their casual fan base) is for the hardcore sim players. That's a line this fish ain't biting. Mark my words. Watch the tweats/blogs/posts in the days to come.
