Re: EA Sports MMA Demo Available, Post Impressions Here (360, PS3)

I am loving this demo!! I couldn't find the strategy in UFC9 or 10 at all, this is something EA Mma has really accounted for I believe, in my experiences fighting the cpu, you can't just spam certain things because you will lose stamina. I found the graphics to be shockingly AWESOME!! I didn't imagine it would look so good! I can't wait to try some user vs. user and online... I'm not the biggest mma fan, but I do enjoy the sport, so some of the things a lot of people have been seeing and I haven't could be because I don't know the sport as good as others do. But I haven't had any moments were I said what a bunch of b.s.!! Like I did with the UFC games...And the sub mini games are where its at. When I first read about the sub mini games, I was like WTF, who thinks that will be fun and strategic, but it actually is! All I know is this game is a lot better than UFC 10 and that speaks volumes for this being EA's 1st try...As another poster said, I think Dana White should consider having EA take over for the UFC as well! I know they are at each others throats, but I think it would be a wise business move.

Also IMO the frequency of the Take Downs are realistic and make the game more challenging. What else does Bobby Lashley do but go for TD's? What did Shields do against Miller? If Lashley is fighting Reem in real life you better believe he's shooting for the TD right away. So that's something you always have to be on your toes about, and it will effect your striking just as it would in real life. Yes, you're not going to be able to open up as much against these guys, but that's exactly how it should be.

The only thing that I see happening too often that makes the game feel unrealistic are the amount of reversals, or sweeps. Mayhem being able to reverse Shields on the ground countless times is just very unrealistic.

So far I like it alot. It seems to be way more strategy behind it than UFC. Especially on the ground. I like how the game gives you a chance to counter a submission attempt rather than being automatically thrust in a submission war when the aggressor clicks his sticks like in UFC. This game feels like more of a chess match in the cage. Picking your shots carefully and not expending too much energy. You really live and die by the stamina bar which is something I like.

Some of the sounds for punches/kicks are kinda cheesy. I think when finishing a fight via TKO you should be able to pound on the downed fighter until the ref pulls you off(this is something UFC needs to improve on as well).

I think takedown attempts should cost more stamina. One fight that lasted a round and a half, Bobby Lashley attempted 19 takedowns!

Standup feels pretty fluid, although in the short time i've played i've had trouble throwing high kicks when I want to, and pulling off the special standing attacks.

I still have the UFC controls stuck in my head, so sometimes I flick the right stick to avoid takedowns, and try to do transitions lol.

I am horrible in the clinch, I need way more practice with it.

I LOVE the submission mini games, it's refreshing to be in a submission battle and know that you won't automatically lose :-)

All in all, after being on the fence about this game for a month, and leading up to that I thought there would be no way i'd buy it, i believe i'm going to pre-order it to get the extra playable fighters. It's pretty damn fun.

Good post. I purposefully went to the demo today to try and spam punch to get the results of easy knockouts and you know what? It works. Good for me. The point though is that if you are purposefully trying to play unsim.....who's fault is that?

The game is fine. Right now my only issue with the demo is that it is a demo and limited in what we will see in the retail version. I agree with GMSS in that it's a VS game rather than a vs CPU game. At least the demo shows that.

the only thing im really concerned about is whether or not there will be sliders on the final product. if you can adjust the sliders and the AI then this game will be amazing. As it stands right now I would like for transitions to be more difficult on both sides. I shouldn't me changing positions 5 times in 10 seconds, but me and my opponent have done that with great frequency. Also, the take down frequency needs to go down a bit.

Otherwise, awesome game so far. And this is coming from someone who is far from a fan boy for EA, I just care about playing good games, I dont care where they come from

"Well, gave it a few more hours this morning. Even more laughably disappointing.

Basically, the mechanics of the game are deeply flawed. With the simplicity of the ground game system, it's just too easy to get into one dominant position and stay there, raining down strikes, and tapping B anytime you see your opponent move. His stamina will deplete severely everytime you defend a transition, which takes no skill, then you can proceed to throw strike with impunity...and by throw strikes, I mean repeatedly tap the diagonals on the controller- yaaaaawn.

I cranked it up to Legend, and won the fight pretty much the same way every single time, about 10 times in a row, first round. I was Lashley against Overeem. Wait for him to throw any strike, shoot, takedown. Let him get me in guard, posture up, pound away. Anytime he moves, tap B, and take out a bunch of his stamina. Distribute shots between head and body, easily keep his stamina in the red, while he can't do anything. Then once he's tired, just pound away- blocking shots does next to nothing. KO!

Alternatively, and I did this about 5 times, wait for him to shoot, tap B. In the sprawl, wait for him to try to transition, take out a bunch of his stamina by defending, try the to transition until it works - not like he can reverse you or anything. Wait to get to the side back mount, wail away. He moves the slightest, tap B.

It's just too simple and unbalanced....I can't wait for the poopstorm of whining once people go online and see how easily things are exploited. And don't say "not the final build!"- the flaws are too deep and inherent in the simplicity of the system. Sorry, folks...the diehard fanboys will cry, but it's simply not a good emulation of MMA, and will not be a successful game."
I call BS as well...No way your getting away with that on Legend or even Hard for that matter.

Although i will say this....If you do posture up from Full guard (standing position) you CAN rain down punch after puch without any type of resistance.....I have done this with all 4 fighters in the demo. The CPU will just stay in that position....Hope this isnt a sign that the CPU will be a push over hence making Career mode 100% pointless.

Maybe there are sliders...Who knows. Other than that issue i love everything else about the DEMO and look forward to the final build...But i do have some concerns now after several matches in the demo with all 4 fighters.

Now I have played about 50 or so fights in EA MMA and I am very comfortable with the controls now. I don't struggle doing UFC controls any longer. With that said, maybe I suck at the game but I find the CPU AI tough on legend and hard.

Now I also stated I buy UFC 09, UFC 10, and now EA MMA all for online only. The single player means NOTHING to me. I could careless if there was no single player. I want a balanced online experience. I did not touch 09 single player, did not touch 10 single player, and will barely touch EA MMA single player.

99.9% of all my time spent on my 360, PS3, or PC is spent playing online.

All I care about is a chess match user vs user

See, i am on the other end here....I have ZERO interest in ONline. Mainly due to the fact i work long hours, have a son and have other priorities. I may play friends here and there, but nothing that will really amount to quality online time.

So for me the Single player (career mode) is the only offering i have interest in. But at thins point i can see the career mode being sort of a waste.....Hope i am totally wrong when the final copy hits.....There is SO much potential here.

1 note....I went 4 rounds as Allistair V Lashley and he attempted 74 Takedowns!!! Mainly due to the fact i wanted to see the standup game a bit more, so if he shot i would just stand right back up...But 74?

Re: EA Sports MMA Demo Available For 360, Later For PS3 - Post Impressions Here

hmm yeah that is a good question..... Being MMA is a sport and this is a sports game, will there be sliders in this game ????

You know kind of how Fight Night Round 4 had sliders that determine how often the cpu blocked, how often they counter punched, how often they parried and swayed.

So being that this is a MMA game, I would like to see the following sliders

1. Takedown attempts

2. Reversal attempts

3. Submission attempts

4. Sway and parry attempts
