This is an EA game. Are you forgetting that their manuals are ridiculously thin? I'm sure it's one of their cost cutting measures or something. The manuals have been ridiculously thin and lacking content for a while now.

Anyway this is the first EA Tiburon game I might be able to enjoy for longer then 2 weeks. I might be able to enjoy this game for months actually.

Could anyone explain the button pressing mechanic for non-choke submissions? I understand that it's a stamina management mini-game and not a button masher but I still have not managed to pull one off.

I think I'm not being patient enough when hitting the button but if I wait too long then he escapes and ends up in a dominant position.

Well for me, I just went at a steady pace until I seen the camera zoom in tight on it, then I went for broke.

Just went 4 rounds against Lashley....74 Takedown attempts! That was on medium...He would shoot, if i blocked i would just stand up...If he got it, i would just transition to standing....

But 74? Seriously...Finally just got annoyed and beat his head in for the TKO.

I have no interest in Online so if this is how the CPU is gonna be, i can see it being pretty thin. And i am well aware this game is mainly online focused about 98%...But if thats the case, why even have career mode if the CPU AI is so bad?

Gonna keep at it, but the AI is so exploitable even on Legend. Case in point....If you transition from full guard to standing while still in their guard, you can literally just keep hitting them over and over and they do next to zero to stop it...You take a small stamina hit, but just pause 1-2 seconds and its full again while theirs will remain empty...KO 100% of the time. This i can confirm as i have done it several times and is a go to move if you just want to end a fight. Give it a shot.

Cant have a slider for reversal attempts. You pull off a reversal when a guys goes for a big transition. Reversal and block are the same button so getting the cpu to reverse more or less falls on you to go for a major transition. Otherwise I agree.

I'm lukewarm on this after about an hour with it last night. I like the strategy and how it feels less like a straight-up fighting game than UFC does (the action's a little slower it seems, don't feel frantic when playing it). Seems like it might have a better balance than UFC because the submission system seems to actually work and is almost wholly based on stamina aside from the mini-games. See below for an example of that...

I had a great fight against Shields where he basically took me down at will (can't get used to hitting B to stop takedowns, kept going for the stick and missing the window) but I managed to work from the bottom, do some damage to get him to let me stand up... eventually he was back on top but I managed a triangle choke in the 4th round. We were both super-bloody and bruised up but fighting strong until the end -- by now being unrealistic with button spaming, I had enough energy left to go for the kill when he punched himself out a bit.

The striking and movement still leaves a lot to be desired, IMO... especially on the ground, where the strikes look downright bad at times. I hope that and some of the possible balance issues brought up in that long post above are fixed for the final. If not, I'm still encouraged by the feedback on user vs. user matches, as that's what I'd be doing 95% of the time with this game.

Being that this game has already went to press, since it comes out in 2 weeks, we all will just have to wait and see how the final build is. This build is from July, so in a 2 month time span they could have ironed out all the problems in the demo.

What isn't it ironed out, they could just patch it. Because of all the little nuisances I see, none of them are engine breaking or game breaking. They are just annoying. Half of them can be avoided just by how you play the game.

I think of button mashing in the same light as I think of rocket catching in Madden and NCAA. It's there, but you the user choose to do it or don't do it.

Same way people use to exploit the baseline move in NBA 2k10. You either choose to do it or you don't.

It all fall on the user......you either a sim player or cheese player. How fun or boring the game is depends on how you make it to be. I mean seriously, like the old saying goes, just because you live in the ghetto don't mean you have to behave like it.

Dude IMHO, you dont want this game then. I was playing on legend last night and was winning way to easy. I cant tell you the number of times I won within the first minute of the fight from full mount. 95% of those are times when I didnt even slam the guy to the ground(I NEVER go for a takedown but will slam a guy from the clinch). I only saw the second round 2-3 times. With reversals being the same button as transition blocks you will reverse even if you didnt want to. That leads to mount really quickly and the AI does nothing effective one you are in full mount.

This coming from a guy that WANTS to play sim. I feel I am playing in a sim fasion and because of that, end up in mount way to fast. IMO its starting to feel they same way as when guys had to go out of their way to try to avoid a KO in UFC 10. I know not everyone is feeling that way(many didnt think KOs were an issue in UFC 10 either), but the demo has only been out a day.

Now at the same time........ maybe sliders can fix this.

Finally got to play the demo (ps3). I really hated it at first, just couldn't get my head round using buttons and a digital of playing, kept wanting to swing the sticks like a mad man. I'm getting to the point now where I understand how to play the game, something I never achieved without eh ufc demo and maybe not even with the full game. Graphics are awesome and the atmosphere will be much improved with commentary.

At the moment I miss the stand up game from ufc, cos I think it was more varied and quicker. The fight night controls feel a bit misplaced but They do free up the face buttons which I makes the ground game a lot better, the submissions mini games are pitch perfect to me.

I've had fights that end in a 20 seconds and ones that last 15 mins, I think that's a good refletion on the game.
