Re: EA Sports MMA Demo Available, Post Impressions Here (360, PS3)

The problem is sometimes some of these gamers have a hard time with other gamers enjoying what they don't enjoy. If someone likes the game, it's not the end of the world. If YOU hate the game, that's not going to ruin my enjoyment. If I'm not a fan of Harry Potter it's not like I'll watch the movie then sprint home to jump on the Harry Potter forums (if their is one) and blitz it with my rants of how the movie was horrible. I'll move on. Not so with the EA products as of late. It's more like..."let me go out of my way to tell the world in the most childish way that I can how much this game blows". Bravo--lets just sink every game. If we can't, we can feel great that we gave a 100% effort to destroy it. Sheesh.

Joking aside. Dude I don't know how to read you either. Everything out your mouth is negative. You think people want to read about you just whining and crying how EA does not make you happy.

I am sorry but no one wants to read that. Providing insight to help the game is one thing but just hating and complaining does NOTHING.

For instance. I think there is a issue with the ground and pound. The animations are off and need some work. I mention my complaint and move on to other areas of the game that I enjoy.

That way the company can see what is working and what is not. I personally agree with GMSS I truly believe you are a ex banned user. Just judging by your posts it is very similar to what we see often around here from pink names.
Everything out of my mouth is negative because this is a poor attempt at an MMA simulation. I don't see a single redeeming quality in this game. I see all of these people saying that this terribly flawed demo is better than Undisputed and I think it's just a bold faced lie. I don't even like Undisputed, I rented it and sent it back within a week. I think it's a completely unrealistic pile of crap.

That said, it's put together better than the demo and every EA MMA gameplay vid i've seen. At least in that game when you set the AI to the highest difficulty you can't go in and KO the CPU in 10 seconds with a wrestler.

Maybe they can do better in the future, (I doubt it), but for right now this game looks horrible and I feel like it's my duty to let fellow gamers who might be reading this thread know that it is being highly overrated. I know personally I feel cheated when I get my hands on a bad game with good reviews.

I wouldn't have even put this demo out, they should have just released it and gotten their money from anyone willing to buy it.

Whether or not you believe me I don't really care, but this is in fact my first and only account on this website.

Re: EA Sports MMA Demo Available, Post Impressions Here (360, PS3)

I don't think it's terrible, but I feel it's being overhyped in here as well.

Here is my short take:

jabs are great, very happy about that and a nice surprise.

ground transitions are ok, I think I like them more than UFC, but I'm not sure.

light ground attacks like guard down strikes are great because they relay that feeling of real mma where they might hurt slightly, but are more annoying and score a little bit, and force or taunt a reaction.

Some throws are great

kicks are flat out terrible - hora-awful, no power and no reaction and awkward overall. As a long time martial artist, this is really disappointing.

Movement isn't as bad as I thought, but movement happens too fast still imo in relation to other movements. If a left hook is that slow for example, than moving around 10ft of mat space is way too fast.

Controls are 'sticky' and sluggish - AND inconsistent. They don' allow the user to pull of good common combo's either. It's not responsive enough, and some combo's don't flow as they should, like a 1,2,3.

36 takedown attempts by the CPU is a bit much imo

Graphics: I'm not the biggest gfx whore, but comments saying they are better than UFC imo are very misguided. The character models are not nearly as good imo - however the muscle flexing and movement is great, and some of the lighting is great too.

Sound is way below UFC i every aspect.

Presentation is lacking as well...yes they've ticked boxes like entrances (i don't care) but they lack execution. I just skip because they don't do their job.

there is also the trademark EA cutscene freeze where during camera cuts the curent shot freezes breifly before moving to the new one. It's like all of EA Sports uses the same _____________ that causes the same problem in all titles. I guess the retail disk will also make my xbox work like crazy too (why the heck is that?).

So overall I liked it, but it's not a world beater either - The striking is better in UFC '09 imo...but '09 is showing it's age and doesn't have sways and head movment and that's in EA's game.

In the end, I'll rent or buy it but maybe not right away as I'm converted to getting nba 2k11....

...but this game has made me realize that what I REALLY want is for THQ to get back on track and really nail their next effort. UFC can still evolve into where it should be and I'm not counting that out. I really think they KNOW it's not where it should be.

I also think some kudos are in order to EA, it's not easy to make an MMA game, and it's playable and fun, but not without its frustrations. This thread is being blown out of proportions in both directions. It's not this year's sports GOTY and it's also not someting that drops out of ****'s.

Trolls aside... would you guys say EA's MMA is a better take on the sport than Undisputed? I'm trying to get into the genre, but UFC's overly convoluted take on the sport has kept me away. I can't download it atm is why I'm asking.

Actually it'd be more like if you were a Harry Potter fan who thought the latest movie had a bad plot, bad acting, bad directing, bad sets, and bad CGI and you went home, sat down at your computer, and wrote an honest review of what you had seen.

I have no problem with anyone enjoying any game. What I do have a problem with is people vastly overrating a game, because other people read that stuff and put their hard earned money into a game that doesn't deliver.

if thats the case you write that review once, you dont retort everytime some posts a positve about said form of entertainment that you didnt like. you say your peace and leave it at that. reacting to every positve post about the game makes it seem like you have an agenda of some sorts.

I didn't do that. I retorted every time someone quoted one of my posts and disagreed with me. If people don't want to have a conversation/debate on the subject then they shouldn't be addressing dissenting opinions.
