If progression could be tied to production, I think that would help a great deal that would solve many ratings problems to begin with

I think adding this is would be a great idea. case and point, me and my buddies are doing an off line franchise the week madden comes out and we get mike vick at a 73 rating then 10 weeks later after we have played through 2 seasons vick is stuck at like a 76 or so. so i wanna go in and edit a few things to counter the real life vick instead of having to restart the franchise over to get the new rosters. just me the franchise more replayable for me

Honestly Ian...this sounds like glitches and freezes waiting to happen. I say leave it alone 'til 12.

very good point, it would be great to do it within a season.....
if there is a belief that this would cause the game to crash then i would suggest to do a point cap...(lets say 15 points either way) to adjust ratings....that way no one can make a 0 overall player.

Re: Madden: Editing Player Ratings in Franchise - Need Your Thoughts

Two thoughts:

1) Editing ratings in an offline franchise would be wonderful because it would allow the user to update ratings without needing to restart their franchise. I'd love to have either the editing ability or at the very least be able to import updated rosters into a current franchise.

2) Why stop at ratings? I'd love to be able to have control over injuries, much like in "MLB 10: The Show." There's no game that injuries are a bigger deal than football.

My rationale behind all of this is I like to play my franchise parallel to the real season. The easier a mode lets me do that, the better.

All I care about is having the chance to change a players appearance. I cannot stand seeing a 300lb Defensive End look like my kicker while a 275lb DT looks huge in comparison. This is most prevalent in NCAA imported drafted players where the appearences are really out of whack.

Also, I would edit ratings, specifically speed ratings, for older players. The lack of regression in this game really blows. As an example, there's only a handfull of productive runningbacks at the age of 32 and beyond. Yet, in this game, Chris Johnson and Adrien Peterson maintain their 99 OVR as they approach retirement. As a result, posting 1500+ seasons in the "twilight" of their career happens more times than not. Actually since their is no regression and very few injuries in the sim game, most of guys in the top 10 in career rushing records are by modern day players. While some maybe good but probability and history will be against most of them.

Unfortunately allowing the user to set every player in the league anytime from a 0 to a 99 is not going to be an option because of all the instability it will cause...and we just don't have the testing man-power to ensure that the mode won't start crashing all over the place.
Wow. This is disappointing to hear. I didn't realize that there could be that many issues.

I want full control over my franchise rosters. I like to control all 32 teams. Have players retire closer to real life (instead of every star player playing into their mid 30's), give more realistic rise and fall of ratings in later years, real life style injuries (ie more), increase the challenge of playing certain teams.

It is also very important when I import players from NCAA. I would like some control over how these players ratings are distributed, since there seems to not be a very good transfer. It would be great to ensure that 6'1 225 Adrian Peterson clone transfers from NCAA to Madden the right way.

Also if you could give us create-a-player in franchise or edit draft classes then this may not be such an issue. I really just want my slow footed wide receiver with great hands in my franchise!

Wouldn't the solution be to just have an option to allow all editing? Add a disclaimer that says "Use at own discretion, possible file corruption can occur."

The idea for editing ratings is for total control. With restrictions I don't even know what to think. Couldn't there be error check restrictions that allow force the CPU to correct....

Some things I would like opened up in the player editor screen
  • Player cyberfaces. Allow us to choose from all the cyberfaces in the game instead of just the generic ones.
  • Change height and weight.
  • Potential (I read above, just important for lowering the amount of stars that never regress in ratings)
  • Injuries (I would love to add more injuries to players since this is never accurately represented, especially QB's)
  • Ability to create odd rating players. Slow receivers, high awareness rookies, running QB's.....
Thanks for the discussion.
