It seems like (much like other changes in the past-like the last few years of getting the progressive lighting in the way they want it) they have a plan to get it in. This year seem to be adding it and making sure it rains when and where it should. Then Delays and other effects get added after that is implemented properly (along with whatever tweaks they need to make to the rain itself). It might simply be a QA issue.

I'm no developer, but coding a game seems (procedurally) not much different than building electronics (something I'm more familiar with). You add things in increments so it's easier to pinpoint potential errors that may crop up from any additions you make.

It could also be a simple priority situation (rain delays, while perhaps doable, were lower priority than tuning other related areas). Everything, especially when you are essentially dealing with less than a year to make changes, add features, and check bugs (Which I think most here would agree is an area that slipped a bit the last couple years and should be a focus), comes with it's own costs to time, budget, resources, etc. I'm sure these guys weighed options exhaustively rather than just arbitrarily choosing to omit part of a feature.
Maybe it takes 2 tries or years to get it perfect! Last year w the lighting we all thought it was perfect but now look at the lighting how they slowed down the progression of it. Maybe in next years game the rain will be perfect!

Im with you bro. I love MLB 10, im still playing it. As a sports gamer ONLY, i didn't think it could get better than it already was. But from reading and screenshots and all that, MLB 11 looks like it will easily top MLB 10.

As far as rain goes, man just the addition of it is awesome!!! who needs double headers. We are not obligated to play back to back games like they do in real life so it doesnt really make it a double header for us if we dont play the 2nd game. I dont know if im explaining right but hopefully some of you understand what im trying to say. Just rain alone and it affecting the field play like grounders and stuff is good enough for me.

This is all positive info!! Cant wait for March 8th!!

OK, YOU tell US what will happen in the case of a "rain delay"??
Do we sit in front of the TV for an hour or two hoping for this "virtual" rain storm to pass through our PS3s???
Do we play mini games until this "rainstorm" stop???
What do we do???? Do the game tell us to comeback after dinnertime so you can continue your game?? How do you rationally implement a "virtual" rain delay???
I can understand rainouts, where your teams game is PPD for the day, and you have to play 2 games on the calender day, effecting your teams lineup and pitching rotation, but rain delays??

My only concern is rain in a stadium that has a retractable roof. I dont want to see an instance like we seen in Madden 11 this year when its raining inside cowboys stadium.. thats funny stuff..
If the temperature outside is over 90 degrees or under 60 degrees, the roof should be closed. Thats the only cosmetic thing we should have with this game right now.
I am pretty certain those talking about wanting rain delays aren't wanting to actually have to sit there with their PS3 waiting until the game can start again. A rain delay could simply include a cutscene of players sitting around in the dugout, or leaving to go into the clubhouse, then fade to black for a quick second, then fade back in with the announcers saying "And we're back" etc... Voila.

The major effect of rain delays is that it messes up your pitching rotation. After a rain delay of substantial time the original starting pitchers are unable to continue and have to be replaced.

DMB, did you notice if the throwing meter reacted differently in tougher situations? For instance, does the throwing meter fill up faster on off balance throws or slow rollers than it does on routine plays? It would be really nice if there was an added difficulty to making tough plays on the run.
