I agree too they didn't make any noticeable changes to player editing in terms of interface or anything, so I'm guessing they've used the same template and coding for the past few years. The reason why it's such a big issue to me this year and probably why it was noticed is the new scrambling logic system which creates a huge disparity in gameplay between the named rosters and default rosters. And then the more subtle observations come into play, like an overload of hard-hitting secondary players and speed backs going to the power moves when they should be playing more elusive.

The scrambling logic addition might have served an unintended purpose this year unveiling the bad bugs of roster editing. Also I'd advise EA to fix roster editing in dynasty mode as well, I'm assuming it's the same code, because with the first day patch and in-dynasty roster editing feature, editing a player currently might changed their player style which would make that feature basically useless for purists.

In regards to how I'm going to move forward, I'm going to agree with Armor & Sword and just auto-name my players, and develop a new slider set.

Just want to say some apologies to all the people who posted this issue and I didn't believe. In particular Gotmadskillzson and Northface28.

The issue with that is...what if you recruit some guys who come in with bulky arm pads and crazy helmets/equipment? Guess what you can't edit that or else they will be victim of this.

That is my biggest issue. I thought: Well what if I just sim 4 years ahead...oh wait if I change anything about a recruit he's infected.

Yep sometime around the end of next month. Patches have to be submitted to and approved by Sony & Microsoft. That turn around time is usually 3 weeks AFTER they submit the patch.

Well I would guess the patch wont change exsisting dynasties or rosters, but its hard to say, it depends on the problems root cause. Lets say there is a bit setting in the code that says this player is a scrambling QB but that bit is changes to balances once you edit the player. In that case I would say you are stuck with existing rosters/dynasties being messed up. However if its say a bit in the code that is still correct but is being misread by the game then the patch would fix everyones rosters/dynasties as well.

But i really think its the first thing and you will be stuck with what you have.
