Finally played it last night. A lot of your guys impressions were spot on. I wish they would have kept the ground game like '09. Having someone on the ground felt totally dominant if you knew what you were doing. Now, it feels like only a matter of time before they get up or reverse you.

I hate how they come out aggressive. But like his they back off if you take it to them. Looks like I'm buying.

I have a group of friends who come over to my house and watch most UFC events. All of them are knowledgable about the sport and love it. However, when they play Undisputed, they could care less about many of the things we complain about (Over Agressive AI, Constant reversals, The Rule of 3).

The best that we can hope for is that THQ gives us sliders or allows us to edit fighters in the future so that we can make the game a simulation.
2009. When me and my friends first started playing it, we played it like a fighting game. Head kicks and hooks. I found my way to this section of OS and learned how to play it. Once I utilized the ground game and guys didn't know how to transition, they no longer wanted to play anymore and said I played like a bitch. They thought 2010 was better. Idiots.

I agree the ground game in 09 was perfect. I remember in my WW career if Matt Hughes ever got on top of me I was done for. Now I can either easily kick him off after three quick flicks of the stick or set some sort of house rule to neuter myself. I'd love to see them patch this, but I'm certainly not going to hold my breath.

Exactly. We want realism but the masses dont. The masses always win.

Great points.
Perhaps this is a discussion for a different thread, but all of this can be said for every sports game.
I know lots of guys that love various sports and know what they're talking about.
Yet when they play a baseball game they want 18 home-runs. If we're playing NHL12 we want 12 goals, etc.
Part of me believes it's because deep down, we all want uber-offensive sports.
Who doesn't love a slugfest in MMA or boxing? I've never heard anyone complain that they just saw too many HR's, TD's or goals.

So in video game land, a majority of people want to satisfy that inner-kid that adores offensive sporting events.

That's what you'd think an arcade/simulation setting would be for. Also, sliders would take care of a lot.

I hear what you're saying, but with games like nba2k - you can give the masses a simulation game and they will still play it (and love it).

For example, what would the negative impact be if it was VERY sim? People lose vs the CPU? Just lower the difficulty or make default easy.

Online? A different crop would be winning a with better strategy. Who would complain about that? People that mindlessly mash barely would win online anyway regardless of the game's sim/arcade status.

So I don't agree with you there - I don't think the masses know what they want, but when given a great game really enjoy it (skyrim). I think executives who assume that stuff about the masses shoot themselves in the foot and would do much better setting out to make the best game they possibly can and forget the masses.

I love NBA2k12. Play it a ton but its not even close to a simulation at default. Its a great simulation after slider and roster tweaks. Those same friends I mentioned before...love NBA 2k12 with no slider tweaks. They hate playing on my system because I have the sliders tweaked and you cant throw oops when ever you want. You actually have to play the game realistically and they hate it. Now these are also guys who are big NBA fans and who own Wizards season tickets.

If UFC3 was sim on default, the masses would complain constantly. To be truly sim, you would have to have some CPU controlled fighters who do nothing but lay and pray, cage clinch and you would have to significantly lower the strike accuracy. You are asking fans to enjoy a game where fighters miss strikes and spend the majority of the time on the ground (the part of MMA most casual fans hate).
