You're right Pared, it is a bonus and privilege, but not for the gamer.

They use game forums like these to market their games at Sweat Factory Cost, if any cost to them at all.

Without actual gamers spending time on these sites, they wouldn't even glance at OS.

We're doing them a favor, not the other way around.

It's our discussion about their game (negative or positive) that markets their game.
Without our discussion, they must go back to the expensive cost of TV segments to push their games.

I feel such a statement really devalues the business source (OS Forum) that the owner of
this site is providing to such a company.

We need toget away from the mindset that sites like OS Forums and it's are beneath them and we're the priveleged one's "If" they decide to grace us by visiting.

We're worth alot more to them, than they are to us.
That's the Truth!!!

I'm with this dude. But I feel like I've gone to message boards forever so it's sort of part of me -- I wouldn't expect most to have that outlook.

We'll ignore the question about Special Teams but look at the reflection on this helmet when you're in the replay screen zoomed in right in tight on the helmet.

They hype up, "We've added Custom stadium sounds this year so you can add your own music." Then we get the game and it doesn't even work correctly. "We added Teambuilder so you can import your own teams from the internet." Then they leave you with half-assed options, no text box, no picking your team brand, no sock options, etc. Then we ask and ask and ask for a text box and they add a half assed text box with 3 choices of text. "We added coaching carousel!" Then we get to play it and it doesn't work right.

For every person who is negative towards this game there is an EA nut hugger who makes excuses and either overlooks the flaws or is simply too blind to even see them. Yes people want to have fun and enjoy a game but it's hard to when the game is so filled with bugs and glitches. And the frustration of coming here year after year and saying the same things over and over only to have them basically ignored gets frustrating.
And since we're already off-topic here, why not make it more so:

Only can speak for myself, but I think I've been pretty open about things to this point. If I can't answer something I can't answer it, but I'll at least say as much most of the time.

Again, though, I think it's a really tough spot to put developers in to expect them to keep a running conversation up, especially on a massive message board where the conversation will get cluttered.

I come here and will continue to do so because of my history here and because I do think it's beneficial. I presume once Madden comes out though and people actually get to play what I've been working on my honeymoon period will come to an end. But it doesn't mean I'll run away or anything, it just means there's more chances to be "attacked" which inevitably begins to weigh on most folks.

that's why i said the Madden guys did a good job with the interaction and used the example of someone pointing out an error, for some reason i think it had something to do with Dallas' star or some other type of art issue, and Ian responded a few days later that it had been fixed and showed us.

It's the NCAA team that did a bad job with the interaction. Were you on the NCAA team back then? if so i apologize that i don't remember but i just remember them just ignoring questions about stuff that was important and answering questions about the fluff or stuff we've already read blogs about. I thought the Madden team did a decent job but people just kept piling on till it got to a point where they decided it was counter-productive and not worth the headaches.

I remember an instance where Ben and someone else were doing like a video chat and answering questions specifically from these boards and would answer a question, skip over certain questions and then find a question about something they had already been talking about and that they were excited about such as progressive lighting.

Re: NCAA Football 13 Video - No More Psychic DB's, 25 Different Pass Trajectory Zones

I said a few months ago I wasn't buying this game, and I'm still not. However, I'm still curious to see how it looks, so I came in to see this vid.

I just find it funny that ONCE AGAIN, all is the same.

The guys who have been here since like '04 and earlier, like myself have the gripes, and many of the new ppl from like 2010 on, think it's the greatest game ever.

ONCE AGAIN, ppl are complaining, EA devs are in here, nothing is really being answered, and we're back to square one.

Face it guys, since NCAA '07 on next-gen there has been ONE really good version of this game, and that was '11(before all the patches screwed it up). ONE. Every other game was marred by the CPU not throwing deep ball...ever. By only having a bullett pass or a lob pass. By WIIIIDDDEE OPEN gameplay, which was possibly the worst thing ever. I could keep going, but those of you who have been here know the rest....

NCAA 12 wasn't terrible, but it should've been a better built version of '11. Instead in many ways it regressed, and on a smaller note it really ticked me off that the uniforms didnt get dirty. Things like that really take away from being fully IMMERSED into the game. I know one guy who didnt buy the game b/c that didnt work....and that's his right, and I understand. The patch that screwed up the no-huddle broke my spirit for the game, and I never played it after that.

Mark my words: This game will be NO DIFFERENT. You're gonna run out day one, drop ur $60-70 bucks on it. Then you're gonna see all sorts of problems. EA is gonna "fix" those problems via a patch, then you're gonna see new problems caused by the patch, and things that were fine before will now be broken.

Rome wasn't built in a day, and this game won't change in a year no matter how much you all hope.

As far as my comment, it's definitely permitted. We have been told over and over something works when it doesn't - patches that will fix the broken, but wont - the new game is finally fixed, followed by another patch. After all that they laugh at how bad it was when they put out the next release.
I don't think the Madden/NCAA developers avoid here because of "tough" questions, they avoid here because the signal-to-noise is extremely low. There are 11 pages of discussion in this thread based on a very short clip, most of which aren't questions. Honestly if you expect busy people to wade through 20 pages of noise to find a couple good questions you have higher expectations than I do.Even if they DO wade through the whole thread they know answering questions just generates another 50 pages of people analyzing the 30 words they typed.

I love that people are obsessed over these games, I fall into that group, but you guys need to temper your expectations with reality (I'm only talking about interaction here).

I've learned not to expect anyone here on OS to trust my words, but I've personally spent a lot of time at EA SPORTS over the last few months (and will be spending more time before the game goes gold) and I know personally that they've been asked tough questions. I've been able to ask questions I've ALWAYS wanted to know the answer to. I've also learned why the answers to those questions aren't public knowledge.

That said, I don't speak for the development team, that's just my perception of things.

Whatever dude, the same **** every year from you guys that go to community days.
If you ask me my personal opinion I think its bull**** you guys say i know the anwser to that, but i can't awnser that im under contract.

You just made a comment when it goes gold.
Let me guess becuase you went to play the game its gold in your opinion.

Guys in here discussing the game mostly negative and you jump in here to save EA.

I asked a ? on your site and Gaiming tailgate if custom playbooks would be discussed in this playbook,Guess what no ANWSER.

One more thing i buy this game every year and after last year i don't expect anything to work right.

If you noticed in the first playbook 2:13 seconds into it they said that was
a bug,so i have vented sorry guys.

I think that was a very even handed post but I don't think it's the limitations of what devs can tell posters that frustrate them so much as what they actually tell them.

Like with ChaseB in the Madden commentary thread and AJ whenever he posts, they just post as if they are still regular OS people and not the newly appointed heir to the EA football commentary and Madden frachise throne, trying to learn marketing speak. lol. I am just joking around but my point is I think the devs would be better served when posting on here to be more themselves and seem less like company men, if that makes sense.

I imagine it can be hard to take your work hat off when talking about work but most people on here don't want to feel like they are being marketed to when interacting with developers, they just want to discuss whatever is possible to be discussed, without any spin.

Also, strictly from a marketing POV, I don't understand EA/Tiburon not having a separate marketing campaign for the hardcore community that includes allowing devs and CD attendees to discuss just core football mechanics throughout the development cycle, NDA free. They can still market and hype the usual casual fluff along with presentation, career mode upgrades but that's not priority for most hardcore gamers in the first place.

Over the years it has seemed like developers interactions where being used as EA marketing hype, not for substantive info or feedback, for the hardcore NCAA/Madden community but I think it would have been a far better hardcore marketing strategy for them to just be themselves.
