What bothers me the most with the new engine is players most of the time dont even try to wrap up or hold on, they just use their bodies like wrecking balls and slam into the ball carrier.

How old or new do you guys think the demo build is. I dont expect to see much improvement in the final product but i hope they can make the physics feel more satisfying. The way it stands now it doesnt feel like weight or momentum really matter at all.

That being said i think this is a good foundation for madden to build off of they just need to get the science down. Ill pass on 13 this year and hope they can really flesh it out for next year.
Also keep in mind that FIFA was leaps and bounds better in the first year in the retail product from the demo. The FIFA demo was a circus. I would think this demo is probably 4 weeks old. It might even be from before the gameplay they showed in June because the speed seems vastly different.

Totally agree with you. Tackling can ugly the majority of the time. There are a few great moments, but they are few and far between.

It has me really thinking about waiting until Madden 14. IMO the first and foremost thing they need to do is work this physics engine with regards to tackling. Would be nice if both patches this year had a degree of fixes to add to the tackling.

The next thing for me is suprisingly not another gameplay feature, it is the need for a slightly more zoomed in camera (Madden 10 standard cam was awesome). I just can't get into a football game from a sky cam viewpoint. At least give us a bit closer pre snap cam. This cam has gotten out of hand far away with Madden 12 and 13. 2k5 was way closer and it only had a 4:3 aspect to work with! It showed flats, screens, etc very well. What is the deal?

I know its a just a demo, but I enjoy NCAA 13 much more than the Madden demo. The gameplay just isn't as good to me. I hope the full game makes me think differently. I'll still buy but I can't guarantee that it will keep my attention as long as it usually does.

Just had a nice little last 1:30 seconds in the last quarter. I was the Seahawks playing the Redskins and was leading them 17 - 3. RG3 was playing well, only missing about 5 passes the entire game and his accuracy was hurting my defense. In about 20 seconds with no time outs used, they still had 3 left, he had led the Redskins to about 20 yards from the endzone. With a short pass they managed to get the TD which meant the score was 17 - 10. About 55 seconds where left on the clock and obviously they needed the onside kick to stand a chance. Well they converted, so I resumed my defensive stand. RG3 was on fire, completing all his passes till the Redskins got another TD. About 30 Seconds remained after them kicking to me, tied 17 all. I knew that I only needed a FG to sureley win the goal so from a nice slant across the middle getting me the first 1st down of the drive, Flynn a deep pass which was caught brilliantly by Rice. 51 Yards FG between me and the victory. I struck it nicely with full power which led me to the victory.
Loving this game!

#1-Presentation(7.5-10 only because of terrible standard camera)
This standard camera is terrible, horrible! Too far away before ball is hiked, players look like Ants. Audio much better. Cut scenes were great! Captured the NFL well. Nicely done. Only complaint is needed a 3rd person speaking voice over during halftime video cut scene. Besides the bad camera view very good job IMO. If they fix the camera, I'd give presentation a 8.5-9.

#2-Gameplay(6-10 mostly because of horrible tackling)
The game feels much better overall. Everything besides tackling just felt tighter and more polished. Much less player sliding/ice skating. Game speed default is too fast, had to slow it down. Passing had too many long pass moments, 40% of my passes went all the way for 40+ yard TD's! Sliders may help that, I played default pro on this first game. Tackling is the worst I have seen in years. It is terrible. A few good moments, but most of the time tackling was plain silly looking. Even looked bad after the tackle when players trying to get back up to their feet. Players fall the wrong way, bounce oddly off each other, and more. At times it looks as if EA is going arcade with this physics engine. Lead passing worked alright. Not done completely right, but sometimes it worked well. No penalty's called the entire game . CPU DB coverage looked better, besides letting my wr get behind them too often for big score. The CPU offense scored no points on me. First game was a 35-0 blow out, and that was a bummer(I will try all-pro next game). Specially since most of the time I was watching gameplay and presentation and not focusing on winning. Didn't feel much weight/momentum during tackles at all. Fix the tackling issues and I would give this an 8.

#3-Graphics(8)
Everything is really detailed nicely. I think the 49ers stadium grass could have used a bit more grass detail, but so nice to see no more blotches, black spots, and multi colored grass for a change. The only thing stopping Madden from 9 or 10 greatness in this area is player models still need some work, and the animations that drive them. Lighting was much better, and if the camera was just a bit closer(like the Madden 10 standard cam was) I think the game would look much better. Once again, the far cam kills off some of the visuals and makes it feel like a game on a handheld system or something. Just too far away and doesn't look like a Sunday broadcast football game. I also can't stand the way the cam goes in and out pre snap while choosing plays, shifts, etc. The cam is already out so far you can see the sidelines, so what is the point of it? Annoying. Just my opinion, and it really bugged me. Anyway, not marking off graphics for the cam and adjustments because I marked off for presentation.

My Final Demo Score-7.5(may edit after more games)

Update notes(2nd game wash vs sea):
*Even RG3 plays like prime Peyton Manning. I am lighting it up even on all pro with RG3. QB's feel too much like the same IMO. First pass was 50 yrd td. Not very realistic passing so far.
*QB kneels still look rediculous. As soon as the qb's knee goes down everyone turns into zombies like they always have.
*21-0 @ halftime on my 2nd game all-pro settings. RG3 still tearing it up. Almost went 28-0 but time expired when I was on the 5 yard line. Still to many big passes & no CPU offense. Finished game 35-0 after trying to give them some momentum, but they never did. They simply couldn't score or move the ball even on all pro settings. I chose the same play every down on defense btw just to see how they would react! The entire game and they scored zero.
*shadows on the players facing sun too dark IMO.
*Commentary much improved, but a few weird placed lines that didn't match the on the field play at all.
*Repetitive TD celebrations. Seeing the Rocky Balboa back peddle hands up way to often
*Terrible tackling sound every once in a while. Very arcade and comes from the rear speaker in 5.1,lol. Suppose to add drama I guess, but it's way out of place and Blitz arcade game sounding
*Too many CPU INT's. On all-pro the qb can't do a thing but throw INT's. Averaging 4 per game off them, hopefully sliders work. Bad news for online play it now guys...
Made some update notes to my initial impression

I gotta say, I'm enjoying it.

The real-time physics, new commentary and presentation aren't the greatest, but it is a noticeable improvement over Madden 12.

This Infinity Engine is making tackles look much better than before. I still have seen some weird ones, guys getting big hits with little momentum and the like, but I've seen some nasty looking pile ups as well.

Nantz and Simms are such a welcome change from Cardboard Johnson and Can't Stop Talking Colinsworth. These two actually have a chemistry together, which always makes for better commentary.

Can't wait to get the full game and start playing as the Ravens!

alot of you are overhyping the engine it's more like a new cam shaft on the same freakin engine

if you liked madden before now you'll love it

if u hated it before u'll hate it slightly less

It's a step in the right direction, but JUST THAT.

-Broadcast is lackluster, the graphics are BEAUTIFUL, but that's where the "look" it dies. The commentators do a great job of keeping you in the game, but the cut scenes and camera's panning on NOTHING are crap.

-The halftime and end game is terrible because again it's emotionless, no game story to be told, and no halftime commentary really makes this game fall.

-The infinity engine is plain fun and awesome to watch, I love the little things like players falling over one another, arms hitting other players and the reactions from it. I esp liked when Bradshaw was trying to block for Manning, and got caught up in a scrum, it looked realistic as all.

All in all this is a FUN demo, but it remains a video game, I wasn't thrown into an awesome NFL broadcast where I could convince someone on the fence to buy this game. What I can tell you is that so far I am loving the infinity engine. The crowd swells and the fact I don't have to hear that tool lil wayne on my NFL broadcast is a beautiful thing. Thank you EA for losing those trax!
