If we were watching the Heat take on the Thunder again on ABC, Udonis Haslem wouldn't be caught dead free styling up the floor and throwing an overhead pass from half court (without looking) into a sea of defenders.

However, on the flip side, that player was user controlled, so Haslem's going to do whatever he wants as long as that person controlling him makes it so. Is it realistic for Ben Wallace to grab a rebound and shoot a full court with 8 minutes left in the 3rd quarter? No, but there's been times where I've accidentally made it happen because players attempt what my input tells them to, even if it doesn't make sense in terms of basketball strategy.

Now, if the question is whether Haslem is even capable of pulling off such moves, I'd give a resounding affirmation. He's 32 years old and he's not a basketball derelict. We don't see guys like Udonis Haslem handle the basketball much because it's not terribly reliable. However, it doesn't mean he literally cannot perform any more than a straight forward right-handed dribble. Even at the mid-sized high school I once played at, our gumpy big men could perform half-spins and painfully slow step-back cross dribbles if they had no one on them. And in the example you reference, no one was really guarding Haslem except for an equally spazzy (and user-controlled) Nick Collison, who more or less made two wild reaches and did not truly attempt to play defense, per se.
Exactly. Most Power Forwards in the NBA can dribble fairly well. It's just not a good idea because you have to get low to dribble effectively and big men tend to dribble the ball high...which is what you DON'T want to do against any defender, but especially one shorter than you. That's just asking for the ball to get stolen.

Now, if Nick Collison (user controlled) had been playing correct on-ball defense I'm sure Haslem (user controlled) would have coughed the ball up.
But, yeah, Big men can dribble. You can usually see it with the guys that primarily have a face up game. They only big men that don't have any sort of dribbling ability at all is usually Centers since they have a more back to the basket game (Demarcus Cousins being one of the rare exceptions. Boy does he love to dribble )

I get that, but I hope the games discourages you to use the player in such a way. He just seemed too agile/fast for my liking. But I'm sure it will be fine because 2K12 had it right. Just looks unnatural.

I definitely see where you're coming from and as DukeC mentioned, if Haslem were being defended proper, either by a computer defender or by a user who was doing virtually anything besides quick-triggering the steal button with a power forward while not squared up to Haslem's dribble, it very well could have been trouble. When left to their own devices though, nearly every NBA player will be able to pull off their own set of ball-handling moves.

Also, to embed:

1) Click "Share" beneath your video (on the YouTube page)

2) Select the "Embed" button

3) An embedded code box will pop up highlighted in blue (multiple lines of text). I right click over it and select "Copy".

4) I then paste it into a post here.

5) I refresh my OS Forum page to make sure it's showing up correctly

Yep. Just give them crossover 3 dribble package from 2k12 and call it a day.

I will say though that Taj Gibson can legitmately dribble though. Getting that low is an accomplishment as a big man.
