I have done that already, twice in fact. I have deleted nearly everything on my ps3, rebuilt the database and re downloaded the game from the psn and it still freezes. My PS3 runs quicker in the menus but doesn't help the show. I think I have tried everything I can think of except buying a new HDD, which I would rather not do. I might have a spare hdd laying around so maybe I will try that.

You may also want to consider saving game data, formatting/restoring PS3 hdd, re-installing game and game data.
