As much as I appreciate the attempt to slow player movement down, I just can't find a way to enjoy this game. And, maybe it's just my TV, but the colors don't look nearly as bright and punchy as they did in FIFA 13. I can't see spending 60 bucks for this.
You can still knock the ball on, just use the right trigger instead of the left you don't necessarily have to be sprinting. First touch works the same way, right trigger plus the direction you want your first touch to go.

I just think it's dumb that you have to press the sprint button to do it now. I don't get the logic. You should be able to slow dribble, then kick the ball ahead without breaking into a sprint right away. It takes away realistic fouls that happen in real life all the time. And FIFA needs all the fouls it can get.

phew, that's a good thing to read. i haven't tested this controller, only saw it on CGR channel, and i was a little worried about it's quality, cause normally, 3rd party controllers are not as good as the 1st party ones. the D-pad looks better than the xbox 360 controller's D-Pad.

so you think it's a good idea for a player in possession & under pressure fro a defender to knock the ball 8-10 feet into open field and NOT sprint after it?

To attempt to draw contact and a foul from a defender, yes. In real life guys with good dribbling skills will draw a defender in from the side, then kick the ball out in front and let the defender run into him. It's about timing. Obviously EA felt like they needed to change that control this year. I'm not a fan.

On the positive side, after playing about 20+ matches, FIFA 14 is miles better than FIFA 13. The top teams don't just play effective high-speed counter-attacks over and over like in 13 ("attacking intelligence"). They actually slow it down and play possession more.

I sense that the opportunity for fouls is there more than last year, but the risk/reward still isn't realistic to actually spend time trying to get fouled by the CPU. You just kind of have to get lucky, using the L1/LB dribbling to quickly shift the ball around and change directions. Sometimes you'll get fouled 3 times in a minute, and then you'll go entire matches without a single one. I wish we could pick just strict refs for the demo, but oh well.

As much crap as we all give EA, this year it seems like they've actually tried to give us a slower game. I think both PES and FIFA will be as good as they've been in a long, long time this year.

Really enjoyed the demo this time around. It feels more like a real game of football. It's not counter attack galore, build up is rewarded, and there's a bigger emphasis on strength and possession over speed and skill moves.

I think the difference between players with 90 Sprint Speed, and say 70 is a lot closer as well, and that's a good thing, it makes slower defensive players more usable. Definitely looking forward to 14 now.
