Re: NBA 2K14 Video - Player Ratings: Classic Teams and Euroleague

Never say never with 2k. 2k made a lot of dreams happen for me. Non of us said one day we will get to play as Michael Jordan in a video game besides the 90s of course. I am going to get the game on cg but if no new classic teams added to ng then I am not getting that. 2k needs to get Jay-z back and get Charles Barkey Suns in the game. We know Charles Barkey weakness use it against him. He said noone says no to Jay-z so yea that how u get Charles Barkey suns team in the game

Next year bring back Jay-Z and have 2k do a list of all of the classic teams they want and have Jay-Z call all of though legends and lets see how many extra classic teams we can get

Remember when 2K spent all that money on like 100 new legends in 2k12 to only use them in a cel shaded mode that nobody wanted?

What Up With That?

What bugs me is the demand for '00' decade teams was so high on this board, and 2K claims they care about the consumer. Yet nothing was done about it. 85-90% of the players on those teams that we all wanted are either still in the NBA, or already legends signed in the game, yet nothing!

Adding in these teams would have been minimal and would have added a TON to the new game.

06 Suns
00 Raptors
03 Mavs
04 Pistons
etc.

2K seemingly has never had a problem with having 7-8 real guys on classic teams anyway, with 4-5 fake CAP fillers. Certainly the majority of the teams people wanted would AT LEAST have 5-7 real players already in the game.

Really just a MAJOR disappointment and a slap in the face to the fans.

I'm a little weary of 2K simply following any given whims of the fans so I'm not particularly mad they didn't blindly do what we wanted here.

However, fan demand or not, I agree that attention paid to the NBA's history is a great way of fleshing out a simulation NBA product. I personally don't believe there can be too much classic NBA in 2K. It's real, it happened, it's authentic, and it's something we know and cherish in many cases. I have a tough time knocking or discouraging anything that better helps represent the NBA and its happenings.

I really agree with you about the 00's classics though. I'd personally like more classics from all eras but like you said, considering the apparent ease with which they're able to integrate Euro teams, celebrity teams, and secret developer teams, it doesn't really feel as though it would have cost an arm and a leg to introduce, say, a classic '07 Warriors team whose court and jersey art likely already exists somewhere in their system to begin with. 8-11 of the players from that team remain potentially active in 2K (depending upon free agent inclusions) so my feeling with some of these things is, what's there to lose?

As is my running theme of late, I wonder how much of classic team decisions are being made based off of how much they're used online. If I were an online gamer, I believe I'd have a tough time using these classic teams just because generic "John Smith's" tend to kill the immersion for me. However, since roster editing is freely available offline (and via 2KShare), filling out those rosters with real players makes them about as legit as possible. I like the current NBA a lot, but I'd still say I easily use classic teams more than currents in my 2K gaming experience and I fully support and hope 2K continues developing this worthy feature well into the future.

Like others have said, I'm disappointed with the lack of new retro teams added in 2k14. Last year I had a blast playing with an all retro association, and was hoping to get a few more teams this go around to spice things up.

I have a strange gut feeling we may have seen the last of the full court press of retro gaming. I hope I'm wrong.

No '93 Suns, no care.

No thanks 2K. Will stick with last year's version.

This may have already been addressed, but couldn't they just have the generic player there with all appropriate ratings, and just call him Point Guard, or in Webber's case, "Power Forward" ?

I think most games tried to move away from that ol' trick after the Ed O'Bannon case popped up years ago (http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports...court/2877579/). I think titles have decided then that it's better to be safe than sorry.

Still, 2KShare makes it easier now than ever to fill in those blanks ourselves. Full teams full of created players isn't at all desirable, but when 8 of 12 are accounted for (and most of the stars), we can work with that.
