Let's be fair the 2006 uproar was about 1% due to gameplay changes and 99% due to the fact that they gutted the game from a features standpoint. Not to mention the big selling point for removing the features, the graphics, were nothing like what EA promised and they were caught in situation that was about as close to false advertising as you could get.

Madden's refusal to rewrite massive areas of the game has zero to do with fan's reaction back in 2006 and more about not having any competition and reason to reinvent the wheel.

my issues is when we spoke about current gen 25.. the response was "hey man don't worry about current gen... they are using all their efforts now going into next-gen"

and now that next-gen looks to be more of the same.. its "oh it's obviously just a direct port... wait til madden 15!"

I imagine a realistic thing we will hear next year is... "Well it's the first non-ported true next gen madden... so you can't expect them to get it right the first time! just laying the foundation!"

I hear they are already getting the ps5 dev team together. it's gonna blow your minds

Trust me, I'm not optimistic, I'm just saying it might have potential.

I'm just trying to be patient until all the news comes out.

personally I liked the 2006 game even with the omission of features because I'd prefer them to rebuild a game that IMO really needed rather than put a band aid over a big wound. The madden communities cried because the game was different from what they became accustomed to on Ps2 so instead of staying the course the game went back to its roots the ensuing years which IMO was a huge concession and the wrong direction.

This is where I have to side wit the EA business minds because they have to be thinking "Why do we need to take any risks at all?...All we need to do is give them a few catchy slogans, purrty the game up a bit and let Madden sell itself"...IMO that is the most prudent way fo them to maximize their profit margins and minimize risk. Sure there will be that small pocket of hardcore guys like us who will be unhappy and maybe not buy the game but when we are burned out and fed up there is a new batch of consumers to take our place and soften the blow in Madden sales...meanwhile Madden continues to be a formidable revenue stream for EA. If all I cared about was the business end of things I would do the same thing they are doing...lockdown the market with exclusivity and keep feeding the people a steady diet of standard Madden.

i think my most recent gripe has been.... that I know they are all about making money. and thats fine. but.. don't they feel embarrassed when the see 2k trailers? Like can they literally look at their game and say this is the best we can do? I hate to trivialize anything but seriously.

maybe some of the hands on developers on the madden team are upset and a little empty when they compare their game to other sports sims...But as soon as the Executives pat them on the back and they are cut a bonus check they come down with a case of a lil something I like to refer to as "Selective Amnesia"...

No disrespect to the EA/madden team because I really do think they do the best with what they are given to work with and I do believe they stand behind their product. Ian Cummings said it all in that podcast alluding to the fact that often as a developer/producer their creative hands are tied.

but aren't game developers fans of games? like do madden devs actually play madden on their spare time? I can't imagine.
