Re: NBA 2K14—My GM News, Exclusive Interview with Senior Producer Erick Boenisch

Association has become stale for me the past few years. This is a welcome change. Makes you think twice before making a decision. This will keep me playing for a while as the storyline unfolds throughout your GM career.

Get fired by the owner? Fine. Get hired by another team, meet your old team in the playoffs, and knock them out. I see a lot of uniqueness and randomness possibilities. I like that.

EDIT: I will say that I feel for the Association heads that make up a significant base. I hope that something will be released later as DLC or they blow it out for next years version.

Until you get fired and have to join another team at least. That aspect can be interesting for folks who care to run with a particular team and are a bit more interested with what happens on the court.

I think at a certain level everyone has to realize this is a brand new mode and this is the first year of implementation. Maybe I'm just getting old I dont understand why people are complaining so much about very minor things. Especially without even having played the mode.

If the foundation is good, which it appears to be then that means it can be BUILT upon over the next few years.

Complaining now for instance that you get fired when you cant tank (if thats the case) or getting fired and having the ability to be re hired by a different team (how is this an issue?) Is kinda ridiculous at this point in time especially given nobody has even played the dang game.

Im sure the mode can be improved but theres a big, huge difference between constructive feedback and whining.

Anyway.

I am really interested in the gameplay changing when people are hurt, shoulder wraps, finger wraps knee wraps...Erick said that players would be limping during gameplay? Will attributes be affected as well? All that is really cool and dynamic.

Now that it has been confirmed that the option to run a Season where the user can control all transactions is still in the game, I am excited to try out MyGM. I think a lot of the resistance and skepticism was due to the aspects that were removed in the redefinition of Association mode as MyGM, and seemed to be totally unavailable in the game.

Man...take this RPG stuff to Grand Theft Auto.

I don't have no time for cause and effect. I just want to play ball.

Who told them this was a good idea?
It's a good idea. In fact, it's an amazing idea. Real GMs deal with this every day, and folks who follow their organizations closely know this is what it means to manage an association with all it's intricacies. If you just want to play ball, there's quick games. All the ball you want. No cause and effect.

Also I think they said you can actually turn some of the stuff off and just have a boring regular season.

I believe there's a lot of folks (myself included) attempting to see how much the new "Association on steroids" really has in common with the original idea of an Association. Folks are rightfully curious and wondering as to how much of the MyGM will be gamers being able to dictate their own path as realistically as they see fit, and how much of MyGM will be simply attempting to manage RPG madness ("Chauncey's happy! Crap! Now Jenning's pissed! Ah! I'm fired!").

A lot of folks have looked to NBA 2K for a simulation experience. Often, those folks have welcomed new additions as long as that simulation ability remained. If MyGM removes the ability for folks to control their own franchise seasons through activities such as dictating real life trades, draft choices, editing all players' jersey numbers, shoes, dunks, abilities, accessories, so on and so forth, that's a big chunk of simulation gameplay for a lot of people that'd be altogether removed.

Of course, information is limited at this point, but people are working with what's been released and to this point, a lot of folks are not encouraged.

Maybe they should make a new association mode called commissioner mode.

Since the commish in essence controls every team. I don't know just throwing it out there. Hate to see the community splintered.

I'm looking forward to something different. Supposedly, the trade logic and the overall GM logic has been upgraded for next gen...hopefully that means that you won't have to control more than just one team...

If you're in charge of a franchise, your decisions should matter and your job should depend on them. Everyone is saying that they want sim/real life stuff. It doesn't get more realer than getting fired for tanking or trading for the wrong player, signing the wrong player, etc.

I like the change and it will only get better from here. I just hope that there is an option to skip some of these elaborate conversations so that we can get more done on the court than in the office.
