2k and fever weren't on the same level of Madden when it came to brand recognition.

Thats part of the reason I think I liked Madden 15. For example, the lack of holding penalties annoyed the **** out of me when I first got the game. I reached out to Madden dev Clint on Twitter and he made it clear that new OL/DL changes didnt affect holding and that the dev team didnt see the lack of holding penalties as am problem.

Now 20 yr old me wouldve started a thread about the holding penalties. 20 yr old me wouldve mentioned it in every thread I could. 20 yr old me wouldve asked Steve if I could write a quick article on OS bashing the dev team for ignoring such a fundamental part of the game. 20 yr old me wouldve harassed Clint on Twitter until he blocked me.

I'm 37 now with a wife and a kid who gets excited whenever he has any free time to just unwind and play video games. I had a ball doing that this year. Madden 15 is flawed like most Maddens but it was good enough for me to enjoy playing it and ignore the issues that the game has.

Many of my contemporaries from 10-15 yrs ago are the same way. These are the same guys who would attend E3 with me and respectively call devs out about issues in the games. These guys are still playing video games but they've found a way to ignore the issues.

With that said, I'm still a bit obsessive about NBA basketball and I still find the time and energy to flip out over basic things NBA games leave out so I'm not completely dead.
I just wanted to respond to this. I actually think there is another segment of gamers who have just stopped playing Madden all together due to the fact that it is inferior to so many other games on the market and honestly this is case with me. I play for about 2 weeks and then I move on to something else. 10 years ago...heck even 5 years ago I never would've stopped playing the game not even two weeks into the NFL season. However I just don't have the time to play a game that hasn't progressed all that much and really doesn't bring me that much enjoyment. That is not to say that Madden is a bad game..its actually a pretty good one, but the enjoyment factor just isnt there anymore. I'm know I'm in the minority in this but again I just dont see that game I need...I mainly buy it out of habit.

to get back on topic I'm anxious to see what they have in store for Madden 16. I really want to be pleasantly surprised.

Reebok didn't then and doesn't now have more money than Nike, they just made the best offer. EA wasn't the highest bidder but they made the best offer, obviously better than 2K.

I don't care frankly, but it's been 10 years and the NFL did more to kill 2K football than EA. I'm done with EA football it's not worth it to me to continue down this path of mediocrity. Too many great games out to spend money on a product that doesn't want my money.
There are many aspects to this argument that are flawed, but I don't want to derail this thread any further over a topic that has been beat in to the ground and then some.

No matter your particular viewpoint, we all ended up losing because of the deal.

If Madden produced a game we all loved there wouldn't be an issue. I don't see anybody arguing about competition in The Show forum.

So true. That's because The Show is a competent title. Meaning, when they promote a feature or aspect in their game, it works. Meanwhile Football gamers are promised "Player Sense 2.0" , "Living Worlds" and "Never see the same tackle twice" - things that obviously (based on the overwhelming amount of video evidence) have not worked as advertised.

Arguments about competition will continue until Madden delivers and properly implements the gameplay elements they promote.

It's unfortunate that F=ma doesn't mean anything sometimes.
Going back to the video. The fact physics doesn't matter with dbs is only a small part of the problem. Again, once a offensive lineman and a defensive lineman engage, they stop in their tracks. Engaged defenders need to be flowing in the direction of the run, trying to keep the rb from getting to the edge and turning upfield.

Madden 15 didn't stay in my console long enough to try it, but I remember that users could steer blocks. However steering 1 block wouldn't help here because you would just create a cutback lane without the rest of the line. You need everyone moving towards the play, filling their gaps, or gap assignments to fix this.

Without gap assignments, you need physics to not matter because otherwise you wouldn't be able to stop those runs at all. Problem is, madden' s fix means I don't need any strategy. Pass defense formations are the most effective for both pass and run so there is no need to ever call base defense.

Long story short, gap assignments and engaged player movement aren't hardcore needs. They are critical to making a game play like football in my opinion.

I'm 55 and I'm running out of time to obsess over an NFL/Football video game. Pretty soon I'll be too old to be able to play them. I've already lost the joystick touch (no giggling) and have become more of a Manager/Franchise person. Running out of time is what's made the last decade so frustrating.

I completely understand your entire post. For me, I've always been "the less a sports video game REMINDS me it's a game, the better".

And congrats on the family. Enjoy them as much as possible.
