Improved replays I think is a big time myth. There is nothing in maddens replay system that replicates what we see on tv. We are never shown a play replayed in a broadcast or all 22 type camera to see the play develop. Once a game I will have a close up replay where it is literally the orange of the line of scrimmage marker because a camera was placed poorly by the development team.

Commercial breaks with 2 helmets placed randomly on the field.
Halftime show with ridiculously clumsy commentary and unrealistic replays..

If you can't feel the immense difference in gameplay and presentation experience with nba 2k (and mlb the show) vs how madden feels... then I guess we just have a completely different understanding and perspective on sports video games. (and if so that is fine.. i am just stating my opinion.)
I never said that NBA 2k or the Show isnt immersive or more immersive than Madden. I just think its clear that you guys give those games more of pass than Madden.

NBA 2k has three intros to their games and only one of them is new (the starting lineups). The show has had the same intros for the past few years. They only thing they've added in the past few years is the split screen batter pitcher view.

I get that you dont like the additions and think it could be done better. I just think they should be viewed under the same lens and Madden shouldnt be penalized for lack of additions when other games arent either.

I understand what you are saying. And I agree. It should be all seen through the same lens.

I think it is because Madden's presentation experience is still very 'video game' as opposed to nba and mlb. They may not add new stuff every year.. but they have been adding the RIGHT stuff. The presentation elements they have in their games are still very solid and life-like.

You don't think those games have earned a bit of leniency with their consistent performance amongst "us" "sim" guys? I agree about the 2k intros, but they also added Shaq and Earnie and I'm still hearing new intros for those. Also alot of the guys over here don't venture over to the 2k forum to see the walls of complaints, lol.

Personally I think Madden did a good job with the intros to the game last year. They certainly looked and sounded like something I'd see on gameday/night.

I just think Madden hasn't yet earned that "benefit of the doubt" that the other sports games have with me. There are things I wish 2k would change or update(more authentic broadcast arena cams is one in particular), but the game has so much other stuff that I enjoy that they earned passes. Same with The Show.

I would love for Madden to earn a pass. Usually when they do earn a pass, they slap me in the face the next year(Madden 10 then 11, Madden 12 then 13, neither games were stellar, but they made me anticipate the next game).

None of us are privy to the NFL network/CBS deal so we have no idea if they extend to video games. I would assume that they dont but none of know if thats an option.

The thing is EA Sports' other games (Live & NHL) have authentic broadcast packages, and they are actually well done! It adds a new, albeit superficial, element to the games. It's weird to see EA's flagship franchise and the most popular sport in North America not get the same treatment. I'm in the same boat with 2K and TNT. It just adds something new.

Noticed a few posters asking Rex about CFM, probably shouldn't bother because aside from it being too early for CFM info, I think they explained last year or whenever, that game play people like Rex, don't deal with CFM, that's another team, headed by Josh Looman.

Anyway, yeah Deuce I was wondering the same thing, when I think of wanting to see the actual penalty play out, I don't mean just triggering a PI animation every time, I mean being able to see the context. Ie any regular pass defense where the defender didn't get their head around ( maybe like the Antonio Brown catch in the trailer) or makes contact too early. I think PI animations are fine for intentional/blatant things like grabbing a receiver to keep from being beat badly but not as the only way to trigger a PI penalty.

Also while I'm on the subject, I wonder if they added the ability for a receiver to "become the defender" in Madden 16 or should I say expanded on it, since they did add the ability for a User receiver to swat the ball down.

It all depends on if they were able to finally get the DB's and WR's off of their 'tracks'. I really don't want to see an interception happen.. and still have the WR 3 yards behind receiving an invisible ball for 2 seconds. That needs to change. And that has been a significant problem in their animation/locomotion system for a decade +

This has been the biggest issue with penalties since basically Madden 06. It takes an animation triggering for them to happen. It seems logical in it's simplest form. Penalty happens, watch the replay, see penalty. But PI penalties never happened because it basically took hitsticking a receiver right before the ball got there for it to be called.

Holding and false starts are by far the two most commonly called penalties and it takes being triggered for both of them to be called. As the user, if you never use fake snap, you have absolutely no chance of ever being hit with a false start. And as for the holding, I'm sure people will disagree but, to me, it takes some the charm away of the phantom holding call and I'd honestly just see it randomly called rather than needing an animation for it to be triggered.

I'm all for these animations as long as it has potential to happen outside of them as well. The way I look at it, every single one of these 2-man interactions should have some chance of PI being called both ways. It doesn't have to be completely blatant or obvious, these are NFL refs we're talking about. I don't know how it will turn out but the feeling I get is that there will be five or so PI animations that always result in an incompletion and PI call and outside of those it won't ever be called unless you hitstick a receiver like before.

Madden is 10 years behind those games (gameplay and presentation wise). EA is still using the same engine from last gen and the game deserves to get criticized for being lackluster and soul-less
