I knew they were gonna pull this BS and put OBJ in the top 5. Replace him with DT and this list is accurate.

If ODB is a 94 mike Evans should be atleast 88-90

These ratings are so arbitrary, it's a popularity contest. Looks like I'll just be playing mostly play now games with the FBG roster

Madden NFL 16 Player Ratings - Top 5 Wide Receivers

I agree with the top 5 but not the order. Brown is pretty much the only guy is ranked correctly.

Also anyone saying OBJ isn't top 5 worthy in madden is being ridiculous. Regardless of whether you think he's a top 5 receiver in the real world, his per game averages and his catch rate blow away any argument for any other player being in there in place of him.

AB and OBJ both have demonic catch rates in real life, they are the class of the position.

Quite simply, regardless of 40 times... would you not agree there should be a "penalty" put on rookies to not make it so they play better than guys who've been proving and dominating the NFL for years? Just my 2 cents though.

If you look at the data, it isn't the raw physical skills that hold the rookies back. It's the technique.

Brief analysis:

Since people often equate things like speed, agility, acceleration, strength, and jumping ability as the physical skills (I do as well), you can see that this year's class of QB are not any more athletic than say one from 2005:

Here are the averages in these categories (2015, 2005) for QBs:
40: 4.87, 4.86
20: 2.78, 2.79
10: 1.69, 1.68
Shuttle: 4.46, 4.28
Cone: 7.27, 7.15
Broad: 111, 111
Vertical: 30.8, 32.0

As you can see, the QB class of 2005 was about as fast as the one this past season. In fact, the QB class of 2005 was a little more agile than this year's class. All in all, they are pretty comparable, however.

Now let's look at the scouting data grades (I won't include all of them, but here are a few). NFL QBs or street free agents are first, followed by the 2015 QB class:

Arm Strength: 2.6, 2.4
Running ability: 1.1, 1.0
Middle Accuracy: 1.4, 0.8
Reads: 1.9, 1.2
Release: 1.4, 1.1
Short Accuracy: 1.6, 1.1
Character: 3.0, 1.5
Ball Security: 1.1, 1.0
Deep Accuracy: 0.76, 0.57

The 2015 class, compared to NFL players AND FREE AGENTS is less developed in every skill listed. That means that they have yet to develop their arms, their accuracy (on all levels), their ability to read defenses, their releases, and even their ball security.

Look at the gap in character though. An NFL QB has a measured character/gamesmanship grade TWICE that of an NFL rookie. That is enormous.

If EA did things right, they would have near equal physical skills, but large gaps in technical skills between rookies and current players (and free agents, even).

Re: Madden NFL 16 Player Ratings - Top 5 Wide Receivers

A 2nd year player being rated over 90 is a travesty.

There should be something in the system to negate this from happening.

Tying awareness to games played....or something to not allow this to happen.

Not that I think this would happen in a CFM.
Ea's system usually makes the highest rookies around 80-82, and I dont think you can raise any player by 12 points off of one season of XP upgrades... or I really hope you cant.

And please stop saying EA is "toning" down Speed....

It has been so overblown for years, they are just kinda getting closer to reality now !! (Emphasis on "kinda")

The facial scan looks pretty good, too. That DOES look like Julio. I may be in the minority on this opinion (and, i know you're a DEN fan, so I'm sure you'll disagree. ), but I still feel DT benefits quite a bit from Manning being the QB. And, please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, because I did not see a lot of Broncos games, but on most highlights i see of DT, he seems like more of a YAC guy. So, I'm sure he runs good routes, gets enough separation, but Manning puts it where he can move with it. I don't feel like Thomas is a great "catcher" of the ball. So, I sort of have issues with him being an upper echelon WR and am unsure how he would do with a lesser QB. Megatron can make wicked catches. Julio can make wicked catches. Odel made the signature catch for madden 16. Not sure if Thomas, Nelson, or Brown actually make those types of catches. So, those are things i expect from a highly rated WR. I am a GT fan, fyi, so i should be biased toward wanting Thomas to be highly rated, but again, the footage i've seen still doesn't make me think he's even top 5, actually.

This does make me bring up 1 question.... how the HELL is Amari Cooper faster than Antonio Brown?
Objs rookie season was the second best ever for a rookie wr behind randy moss. And he only played 12 games. Don't understand why people think he didn't play at an elite level last year. If you actually watch him play, he already is one of the best wrs in the league. I guess people get too caught up in "the catch" and think that's why his ratings are high
