It's already in head to head online. When you play the game you can already do all these same auto subs. They just don't save from game to game like it will in CFM

It's moot now but I wonder how much marketing this as "THE return of formation subs" plays into expectations and any subsequent disappointment with this. Adding a CFM menu to access personnel in playbooks, like could always been done in the play calling of a game and having them save, is a good addition and something to tout but labeling that the return of formation subs might not have been ideal. I think I get what it is but some understandably equate formation subs with a much broader feature.

Maybe if it was just tweeted out as "a new CFM menu to access existing formation subs in play calling and save them", that's not catchy but it seems apt, imo.

You have the same access to the marketing as anyone else here, what have you seen?

Before this week, there were no out-of-game formation subs in any Gen 3 or Gen 4 Madden game. Gen-2 style / Gen 3 NCAA Football out-of-game formation subs has been one of the most-requested features by the Madden community for the past ten years.

This week, Tiburon announced that out-of-game formation subs would be added to the Madden 17 in the launch patch.

Labeling it "the return of formation subs" is entirely appropriate. With the notable exception of the already-existing substitution restrictions being removed, when the community has brought up "formation subs", what Tiburon has produced and will deliver at launch is exactly what the community has been asking for.

The problem with having a WR at RB, is that player would be guarded by a LB by default in Madden.. When Randall Cobb was in the backfield against the Broncos, I know CHJ followed.. In madden there is no way for us to do that.. If one was allowed to do that in Madden, they could put their WR1 in the backfield, motion him out and absolutely burn the LB in coverage all day. That's an exploit that Madden is not prepared to handle, which is why I'm glad they put that restriction for now.. In the future of they can nail Defensive assignments, bring it back.. But right now, how the defense would normally play in Madden, it'd be OP, for sure..

The limitations don't bother me at all since I'm pretty sim lol I kid...kinda. But I'm very happy with this much already. I just have a lot of situations where I prefer certain WRs in the slot or want a different TE in certain 2TE sets or LB and DE alternated in other formations. So this is perfect, loving this team's effort so far.

With the addition of Formation Subs this year and the fact that it was added as a last minute patch on launch, can the Custom Playbook feature be instituted like a regular playbook option in Franchise Mode like any other coach playbook? When playing Franchise, and having the Formation Subs option in the game (it's about time guys), having the Custom Playbook as an optional playbook to use in Franchise mode will allow the user to substitute the players that the user wants use in their particular formation. For example, when starting a Franchise, the user is allowed to create a Coach as well as select a playbook. So with the user getting an option to create a coach, why not allow the created coach to have a created playbook? It only makes sense for the user to have this option. And while I'm at when creating a playbook, can the user have all the options available on kickoff and kickoff return. Ever since the Created Playbook option has been instituted in Madden the user doesn't get all the options on kickoff such as squib kicks or all of the onsides or the two man return option on kickoff returns. It's the PS4 and X Box One you guys. These options are needed so user can have the best experience in playing Madden 17 this year. Thanks for giving me time and have a great day.

Kudos to Simfball on this video. This is my exact point of view.

On his point about dual position players like Dri Archer, Deanthony Thomas, Percy Harvin, Tavon Austin, etc. Maybe having a primary and secondary position would be the key??
Generated rookies could have them. Like those CB changed to WR draft stories.
Then for H2H play, positions can't be changed anyway.
