Cornerback, long bomb glitch

My line would rush the passer, the quarterback suddenly hits a man streaking down the sideline wide-open. Where is my cornerback?

There is a glitch when you rush the quarterback and you switch men, your cornerback can be selected and you end up wandering to the bench like an idiot. It’s happened enough times to see if there’s a fix or if I have to wait for a patch.

I know this sounds like a joke, but I’m serious. It’s not a glitch, but literally a new feature (just poorly implemented).

It’s one of their new feature (I’d imagine it’s a back cover of the box feature) where you can switch to a different defender before the pass by flicking the RS. Stupidly enough, this is the same RS that you flick in all kinds of directions while engaged to try to free your player from a blocker. If you’re not actually engaged when you try a pass rush move, then you’ll do the new feature (can’t remember its name) instead, switch to a different defender (like your CB) and move him around while thinking you’re using your original guy.

EDIT: just reread your post and maybe you’re not using the RS, but pushing the B button to switch to someone else, and the game switches to a guy you didn’t intend. If so, then disregard the above.

Couple of notes:

1 - the Switch Stick does not activate post-snap if you are controlling a player who does not have a coverage assignment pre snap. To that end, you cannot use the Switch Stick when playing as a defensive lineman on the vast majority of plays, even if you pull that DL into coverage. Additionally, the Switch Stick does not function once the ball is thrown, or if the play isn't a pass at all.

2 - in the case of problems controlling a player when using Circle / B to switch players post-snap, the game does offer a Switch Assist option which will cause the CPU to briefly override your controls following swapping to a different player so you don't accidentally pull your new player out of position immediately. Switch Assist in the Settings menu somewhere, I forget exactly where.

It's in the main menu where you set Quarter Length, Skill Level, Accelerated Clock etc. It's further down the page.

I only user the MLB, so I didn’t know about it not working with the DL. I’ve had it trigger accidentally for me (I very rarely switch defenders, and never before the pass) often enough that I REALLY wish I could turn the switch stick off). Sometimes it’s when I think my guy is engaged, but isn’t, but the most common occurrence for me is right at the snap when I’m trying to pump up the crowd after doing adjustments and they snap it while I’m pumping up the crowd…..

Re: Cornerback, long bomb glitch

I have it happen when I go to blow up the running back on a play action fake. Add an extra layer to my wrong read of the play and pull two players out of position.

Re: Cornerback, long bomb glitch

Wondering if OP is switching with the intention to move to a different pass rusher, but switch assist is instead selecting the DB covering the WR that the CPU QB is reading at that point in time?

I've had this happen to me a couple of times, but switch stick was the culprit mainly on accident. Unrelated to switching players, there have also been a couple of times where the DB just didn't move had to do with the coverage I selected though. Had him sitting in the flat and the over-the-top help couldn't get there.

Re: Cornerback, long bomb glitch

Yeah, definitely happens. It happens even more so in Madden. Essentially if you're rushing the passer and you're blocked but another defender is coming free, if you hit the B button to switch to the rusher that is closer to the QB it will switch to someone in the secondary even though the QB still has the ball.

I just stopped switching. I was wondering where my DB was and then I'd see he was 30 yds down the field doing tackling and dive tackle animations.
