How the heck do I sub out my starting RB in game?!?!

Many apologies if this has been posted before.

I have a 93 OVR RB I usually run around 20 times a game. I have 3 studs behind him @ 88, 85, and 84 respectively. By the 4th qtr, he's in the yellow and even red, and the CPU will not auto sub him out. I have sub settings at 95in, 90 out for HBs....still nothing.

So I manually move him on my depth chart not just at the bottom, but down into the greyed into area where the inactives /redshirts are, so there are literally 4 RBs on the depth chart ahead of him.

He's still in the game on every play going forward!!! What the heck. It's maddening because at that point he's so worn down he's lost a ton of points on all of his stats and is no longer a threat, so my run game is no longer a factor. Not ok in anything like a close game.

It's not this way with my QB! I want a backup QB in , go into depth chart, place the back up above the starter, and boom....he's the new starter until I pull him.

Why is this not a thing with my HBs??? Help!

Make sure he isn't a starter on the 3DRB or PWHB roles on the depth chart. These are you starting 3rd down backs and Power backs. Your 3rd down back will typically play about as much as your starting tailback. As a general rule of thumb, if my #1 RB and #2 RB are close, but my #1 RB is a much better 3DRB, I will start #2 and have #1 be my starting 3DRB and they will get about the same amount of playing time.

Yes to this. Also just note that 3DRB does not mean that they automatically come in on third down. Certain formations have the 3DRB in place of the standard RB. I have my custom playbook set up so that in formations that use the 3DRB I have pass plays, draws and screens. I have a good receiving HB in my depth chart at that position. Unfortunately I don't know anywhere that it's listed what formations use the 3DRB, you just have to trial-and-error to find out.

What the 2 above said is your issue. I strongly suggest going into practice and edit your depth chart so that your HB1 is different than 3DRB which is different than PWHB.

Then go thru all of your formations so you can see which ones use HB1, or 3DRB or PWHB (as was stated above, it’s formation specific). If you have too many that use 3DRB, then you might wanna edit your PB to balance things out more.

Once you figure this out, you can set up nice rotations. I have HB1 as my best guy or best power back. Then HB2 is my 2nd best and I use package subs to put backup HB in some formations. I also have a 3rd guy as 3DRB so that I have 3 guys getting carries every game.

Another tip I do is hit triangle on one formation and put in my #3 or #4 HB and put him in one formation. I may only give him 2 carries a game and its usually on a easy down like 2nd and 2.

I thumb thru the packages with the R3 stick on the formation play call screen to give quick rests to my qb's and rb's.
