So many fly balls

I'm only about ten games in with 25, just starting with franchise and jumping right in, but I'm having a heck of a time figuring out how to adjust my settings to get the game to play the way that I see as more realistic and what I'd prefer.

Nearly every batter on my team, no matter what style of hitter that they are or how much power that they have, tends to hit high fly balls any time I make good contact, and it leads to a TON of fly ball outs. Like every inning is a HR derby.

Guys who should be hitting for contact and singles, which make up a good part of my team and my desired way to play, are hitting under .100 because of this, and I don't think I've had a single ball that landed between the infield and outfield for a hit, and ground ball line drives that go between the fielders are super rare.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm playing sim style, with similar sliders as I've used for years, adaptive difficulty (currently at Rookie+ because I'm not doing well)

I'm not sure. I've seen more of a hit variety in this years game than any other version.

I may be completely wrong here, but my assumption is that the issue you're having has to do with the difficulty level.

"Rookie" is meant to be easy. Pitchers don't exactly throw the ball down the middle 100% of the time, but the vast majority of the pitches you'll see are slow and fairly close to middle-middle. Because of where the ball is, it's easier to square up and smash the ball, leading to the fly balls.

On a harder difficulty level, pitchers will pick the corners, the ball is coming at you faster, and they'll move up/down/in/out, which is where you should see more of a variety in the way that the ball is hit.

Again, could be completely wrong, but those are my thoughts. Cheers!

Probably too easy of a difficulty level. I would suggest following one of the slider threads above those guys have really good settings and testings.

Re: So many fly balls

Thank you guys for the suggestion. It turned out that, for whatever bizarre reason, Rookie+ was FAR, FAR more difficult for me than veteran or even All Star. I really wish that I could zip up to Veteran+ as I have in past editions of the game, but oh well. I'll figure out a way with sliders to get one of those two to work for me. After scoring 1-2 runs a game on Rookie+, I got 18 on veteran, lol.

Re: So many fly balls

It’s because the PCI is too big and covers too much of the plate so you end up making way more contact on pitches you would otherwise miss or hit to a certain area. It’s easier to make contact but I find it’s also harder to “hit” for people that are good at moving around the PCI. I actually have the opposite problem where on the lower difficulties I hit everything into the ground, but it’s mostly to do with me playing on Legend and always being ready for up and in fastballs so I naturally tend to go up on the PCI. When I do that on rookie moments with slower pitches and a bigger PCI, the ball just goes straight into the ground for an easy out.
