GUYS, What is your Perspective on Tipping

Edit: Don't think I clearly stated my view originally. I will tip IF the service is exceptional. If not, then they will not be getting a tip. Also, I was ignorant to the fact that servers don't get paid minimum wage.. that is pathetic. Apparently in my home state, servers DO get paid the minimum wage, so I don't mind not tipping. If I was living in another state where servers didn't get paid at least minimum, I would tip every time unless the service was appalling.

I am 100% against tipping people in the food industry, word to Reservoir Dogs. Why is it expected for them to get tipped for their service, while others in much more serious services which are arguably more demanding, NEVER get tipped?

The only services I tip, are if I ever get my car washed and detailed.. I'll usually hit dude off with $3-5 depending on how well I think he did.

I thought it was status quo to tip in restaurants??

I'm a great tipper. If I can give a few extra bucks to someone trying to make ends meet, I would do it everytime.

sometimes I feel pressured to leave a tip b\c of the stereotype that "we" dont tip well sometimes...I know its silly but thats in the back of my mind sometimes.

now if its poor service they get NATHAN.

Don't servers get paid less than minimum wage?

That's awesome of you.. honestly. My question still stands though.. why is it just the food industry? I'm sure there's people who bust their asses in other fields who make the same hourly wage, except without the tips.

No there aren't. As of a few years ago (2005ish), waiters were getting paid I believe $2.49 an hour (may have been in the $2.70s).
