This is also posted in a accelerated clock thread but it is kind of a topic all on its own.
The way Madden is in it current state I think to have it run all game long is the best way to implement the acc. clock. It def needs to be in the game as currently there is no accounting for personel changes.
I love the acc. clock but I was just thinking that the reason for an accelerated clock is to account for the time that it takes for the personel to get onto to field and get the play called. Here is my idea if Ian and company wanted to go a alternate route to the accelerated clock while adding a very cool feature to the game.
My idea is you pick your play as you currently do and then the screen pans out to show a view of the whole field or the screen shows QBs or coaches calling out plays from the sidelines (of course the play is called but showing this adds to the realism factor and could give a chance to really show some cool visuals of players and coaches). So the screen is showing off the graphics of the game and the whole atmosphere while you actually see the players that make up the package of the play you just called going on to the field while others are coming off. The players hit the huddle, add in a couple seconds for the QB to call the play(actually show the QB giving instruction) and then the team breaks the huddle. This works also on the defensive side as well. If there are two people and the offense picks first, the defense better be right there behind him other wise the defense could get caught running people in. If the defense calls a play first then obviously they will get there guys out onto the field with no problems, but it creates a whole bunch of great scenerios that can play out even before the play starts. Play calling would take on a new and much improved face lift and add a ton to the game.
Now what this does is create a ton of atmosphere because you are showing the field from a wide view where you can see the stadium and players and everything going on. Secondly it takes out the need for the accelerated clock feature because that time will actually be used with all that is going on. This feature really only exists because of the game lacking parts of football we see every Sunday, which shouldn't happen. People want realism and immersion and atmoshphere, this is a way to create that and add some great things to the game. People would actually get caught up in the activities going on after they pick a play which would add so much to the replay value as well as the fun factor.
Of course for the casual fan you can always make all this an option and opt for the current play call screen....But who would want to?
