Defensemen in OTP

I typically play LD with an OD build. I seem to always be on teams that never pass that much and it's difficult to get an A for my stats without an assist at least. I think I average 1 assist every 3 games it seems like.

For those of you that mainly play a defensive position are you getting good opportunities to get an assist or maybe the occasional goal?

Re: Defensemen in OTP

I always like to take a penalty at the start of a period, that allows me to play as a forward once I come out of the penalty box until the next whistle. I have also found that the best way to get assists is the long breakout pass. Most people tend to score on 2on1's and if I can hit one of my forwards, that can setup the 2on1.

I do have 5 points in 8 games, but I just play random games with people that are online at the time. I've played with a couple groups that would actually use the points like they should be, and that was fun. I usually play as a defensive d-man, so that makes things tough to get points.

I can usually get an assist every game. Mostly because I take about 7 shots a game from the point so there are normally several rebounds to be had for my forwards.

I think I am just having bad luck with being put in games where no one even bothers passing to the point.

It really does make a difference if the people you are playing with actually use the points.

This is about all you can do as a defenseman. Learn the shooting and rebound angles. If you stand still at the point or side boards some will pass to you and also you won't get yelled at for calling for a pass when the AI randomly decides to throw one out and it goes flying down the ice. Going to the net on the weak side is good for a rebound goal or wraparound chance occasionally if the other D or the C is trusty. Stepping in on forwards who are too far up on breakouts is similarly effective. The turnovers make for good quick two on one chances because the second D has usually hung the puck toting D out to dry.

Yep, high on the blocker and low on the pads are the money spots if you want some rebounds.

Re: Defensemen in OTP

I agree, it is a pain playing with people who do not use the points, but what can you do? The only resolution would be to find an EASHL club, but sometimes that just isn't readily available.

I'm the same in the stats category almost. I have 5 goals and 45 assists in 90 games, and I only have a -11 rating. I would love to play more OTP games, but my internet connection at my new residence isn't as good as it was at my dorm last year.

If only I could have my school's connection, which has a whopping 94.68 MBPS download speed. My apartment speed is only 0.92!
