The $64k question: Can editing the CPU playbooks save the CPU's offense?

We all know the issue with the CPU's offense: if any player gets the ball within ten feet of the hoop they are taking a shot no matter the circumstances. Probably the worst is the block to block screen where the PF comes over and takes the 10' jumper, seems like some teams run that play a third of their possessions - obviously it's annoying. Double teaming doesn't stop it, playing a zone doesn't stop it, adjusting pressure to tight doesn't stop it - obviously it's built into the engine that the CPU must shoot the ball if they have it within 10' of the hoop. As a result less 3PA attempts are seen by the CPU because the ball doesn't get worked inside-out.

I'm not holding my breath for a patch (in general, I don't think there will be one) that's going to fix this issue. The patch in Live didn't fix it, no reason think NCAA will be fixed.

Editing the CPU playbooks in 2K8 is THE biggest reason that game is still so fun, it feels like you're playing a human. If it wasn't for those edits then 2K8 would be retired from my PS3. Can we have the same success with NCAA 10?

The first thing I'm going to do is try to eliminate the plays that have the block to block screen as one of the first three options - unless a team has a go-to PF. I have played teams, such as Michigan, that jack up threes and don't go inside as much. Naturally those teams are more fun to play against because the offense is more diverse. They look inside less often so we don't see the "CPU must shoot" problem as frequently. Plus "balanced" playbook teams could use more 3PA in general from what I've seen.

If anyone else wants to do some testing please post your results in here, hopefully we can get the CPU playing better offensively.

I was thinking the same thing. I wish that were able to edit the teams play books.

This is of great annoyance to me as well, any sort of progress on this would be a great leap forward in making more enjoyable gameplay.

As it stands, the CPU offense is completely dysfunctional. Has anyone noticed how easy it is to steal the ball from the PG that dribbles near the three-point line for 20 seconds before any ball movement commences?

ehh,

I adjusted the ai slider close shots to 25, I wanted to see if missed shots by them would encourage more outside attempts. Maybe a little difference but not enough. I agree that sliders might not get it down so your idea on playbooks sounds great - I'll try anything at this point

I didn't know we could do this either, so I will check this out tonight when I get some time. Ehh, do you think it is just ten feet and in? I have seen players post from further out that will shoot automatically as well. Could be wrong though, seems as if they get the ball in a post position they will chuck it up with the fade away or quick spin and shoot. Is this in Live as well?

Even if this worked there would have to be a patch as I don't know if I could continue to play with his fatal flaw. Such a damn shame as offenses are run so beautifully in this game. Here's to hoping....

This is really weird, I just booted the game up and can't do it right now, I swear I could do it this morning. I changed UConn's and DePaul's entire playbook. There's gotta be something to trigger to unlock it. I can't even edit UConn's playbook right now which is what my profile is attached to. WTF?
