Let me start off by saying for the most part, I enjoy this game.
If it's a working, fun franchise that you're after, like a lot of us, you better hope the patch saves it so franchise mode can be playable. Right now, in my opinion, it is not.
Sim stats are WAY off. Low batting averages, ridiculously high ERAs for elite starting pitchers... Players regress in ratings for no apparent reason at an alarming rate. Free agency is pretty much broken.
I believe a roster has been released, but it does not yet have rookies in it. Jason Heyward is not in the game yet. In time, very soon I'd think, a new roster update will be released.
Do you enjoy having very realistic rosters, including minor leagues? If so, keep in mind that there is an editing cap. After a certain amount of characters/players, it won't let you edit player names any more. You can edit as much as you want as far as attributes, batting stances, pitching deliveries, etc...
For us franchise lovers, we just need to hope that 2K delivers huge on this upcoming patch. If they do, this is going to be a very good game. If they don't, this game will collect dust for people who need a pretty realistic and bug-free franchise experience.
