i know the 2010 version has an issue in 2013 or 2014 where big name free agents don't get signed and stay as free agents.

my question is, was this same problem in the 2009 version of the game???

this relates to the ps2 version...yeah i know, and no i don't have cash laying around for a ps3 plus the game...so ps2 it is.

don't know if it was in the PS2 version last year, but it wasn't in the PS3 version.

Just sim ahead and find out if you notice anything unusual.

Yea exact same thing happened to me... Pujols, Buster Posey, Johan Santana, Ryan Howard, Zach Greinke, Elvis Andus, Tommy Hanson and ATLEAST 15 other A rated players were all in the free agent pool at the start of the 2014 season. Needless to say I didn't continue on with that franchise.
