Baserunning 101?

Well, the manual [in-game and the booklet] tell nothing concrete about how to run the bases in this game.

Some major problems i have been having include:

- Stealing a base. it says L2 but it never works,

- Moving along individual runners. Example; runner on first, I hit a single, i try to advance the runner to third without the guy who got the hit running to second.

I am sure this is a problem for a lot of folks and hopefully we can get the 2k gurus to throw down some tips.

It does?? Weird. You lead off and steal with L1. Tap L1 to lead off. Hold L1 and it vibrates, which signals the runner to take off AFTER YOU RELEASE IT. Don't release L1 after it vibrates until the P starts his movement to the plate, in other words.

Actually, on XBox...

Left Bumper is to advance/lead off all runners. Left Trigger advances and leads off the selected/highlighted runner.

To steal, hold down L2 for the highlighred runner. .) You'll feel the controller rumble. Keep the button pressed pressed until the pitcher makes a move to the plate. As soon as you see that, let go of L2 and the runner advances.

LBumper does the same thing, but if you have multiple runners on base then all all of the runners will steal.

the Basestealing worked but eh l2 for running didnt.
I had a guy on second and Cano singled I hit l2 and cano went for 2.

do u know how to advance single baserunners without the other runner following suit?

Ha! It does take some getting used to, but I've gotten used to it.

Keys to remember...

To advance all runners one base, click LB once.
To advance all runners two bases, click LB twice.
...and so on.

Now, advancing single base runners, I actually use the right thumbstick. The right thumbstick is used for running/advancing a single runner the same way the thumbstick is used for throwing the ball when in the field. Press right for 1st base, up for 2nd, left for 3rd and down for home.

First thing to remember is that all runners will advance one base automatically.

Second thing is that the lead runner is always highlighted when a ball is put into play. You can tell which one is highlighted by the blue outline around the yellow dot on the baserunning display.

So if you've got a guy on second when a single is hit, he will advance to third unless automatically and stop there unless you send him home manually. In that case, what I do is I will simply flick the right thumbstick down to send him home. No need to press multiple times. Since he's already highlighted, I want him to head right through 3rd and onto home, I flick the right stick down.

Now, to advance other runners hit your 'A' button (on 360) until the runner you want to advance is selected. Then using the right thumbstick send him to the base you want him to advance to.

Does that help? I know it sounds complicated, but it has become 2nd nature for me.

So either you're using a different controller/terminology, or these buttons can be reprogrammed and my setup is different than yours.

Sorry - that should say LB - Left Bumper - to advance all runners. L1 harkens back to my old PS2 days. Sorry.

So...

• LB (left bumper, button on left top shoulder) advances all runners.
• L2 (trigger button) advances a single runner - the one who is highlighted. (Or you can use the left thimbstick to direct the runner to the desired base.)

Does that make sense?

I'll go back and modify my explanation. Sorry for the confusion.
