Fired Out of Left Field

Wow, I'm in shock. I was livid. Now, I'm just stunned.

We just finished year one of our Online Dynasty. I was Arkansas State's Offensive Coordinator. I had a one year contract, and I met all of my goals. Furthermore, my offensive players set school records on passing yards, passing touchdowns, rushing yards and rushing touchdowns. We were 2nd in the nation in red zone scoring percentage (90%). QB was 27th in the nation in passing yards. Running back was 15th in the nation in rushing yards and 2nd in rushing touchdowns. Tight end was 32nd in the nation in receiving yards. Our record was 7-5, and we progressed from 1 star prestige to 2 star.

The only negative that I can see is that we had a poor showing in conference play (3-5), after going undefeated in non- conference play (including a road upset of Illinois). I had read on here about some surprising firings, but I was totally surprised by this. To add insult to injury, my team's head coach was fired and all three of my buddies in the dynasty are candidates for that job. Two of which had worse seasons than me.

I was planning to stick with Arkansas State for the long haul. What a kick in the junk. Oh, well. Got to roll with it.

That really sucks. I haven't had it happen to me, but I've read plenty of other stories like this. I know it's no consolation, but maybe, just maybe a better school will hire you, although I've always enjoyed using Ark. St. in a dynasty as well.

That you broke school records in both passing and rushing categories is crazy. Hopefully, for your sake, they go 0-12 next year.

I will say this for coaching carousel... it's another in a long line of broken things in this game. Case in point... Joe Paterno, Penn State. Joe Pa took that job in 1966... long before any of us were born. None of us knows a world w/ out Joe Pa as the HC at Penn State. In recent interviews, he's still bright, alert and looks as though he could coach another 25 seasons.

I've played through several dynasty's... always starting a new one when the one I was playing would just freeze up at some point and would not let me advance w/ out simming... which is another story of brokenness...

But in one, they had Joe Pa retiring after one year... in another, he was fired after the first season. The Nittany Lions were 4-8. I didn't check to see if they had a rash of injuries or what... but he was fired one year into the dynasty.

Now I know, I know... they don't use "real" players and thus, they aren't using "real" coaches either. But since none of the people making the game or playing the game knows a world where Joe Pa isn't the Penn State HC, it should be coded in that he never leaves, never gets fired. He stays there and that's that.

And for those of you who are Penn State fans... there's no point you can argue that you deserve to be their HC over Joe Pa. None. Period.

To the OP... if they'll fire Joe Pa after one season, it should be no surprise they'd do the same to you. Somewhere, Bear Bryant is rolling over in his grave.

What makes it worse is that they are returning most of their offense, and I was already getting excited about my recruiting class (Had a four star TE and a three star ATH/WR committed.) I'm contemplating annually scheduling Arkansas State going forward. I'd like to make them regret their decision, but seeing my players might just upset me more. I think my ultimate goal may be to get hired by Arkansas and then drop 80 on ASU every year.

I appreciate the JoePa comparison. That makes me feel a bit better. My turn in the carousel hasn't popped up, yet. I'm eager to see who offers me a job.

Yep had that happen to me too with midd Tenn state after two years. Went 8-4 and 7-5 and only failed my complete x percentage of passes. It's alright now because I went on to southern Miss and after 6 years there we finally won the national championship. Best of luck with your next job.

That's true, but they should clearly state it before you start your dynasty.

Are you sure the interviews you're watching aren't from 1986? He doesn't look bright, alert or able to live another 25 years, let alone coach. JoePa will die before he retires, but if it's more than 5 years, I'll be shocked.
