Figured out why WR screens and bubbles dont work

first off, why put these plays in if they hardly ever work?

Secondly, Receiver blockers never cut block, or block at all for that matter. they run into space usually right by defenders and wont attempt to engage a block until the ball is caught and by then, unless they were playing a prevent defense, its too late to make a play out of it.

Anyone able to run these plays with success at all?

If you go in and edit the WR impact blocking Run Block strength and Run block footwork up to 75 they block alright on these plays. Plus this helps on outside runs. I took this from madskillz player edits.

Yea but that doesn't help in ranked matches. I was a HUGE bubble screen guy in 11, esp out of I-Form slot when the lb's wouldn't adjust to my slot.

Re: Figured out why WR screens and bubbles dont work

Bubble screens work a lot better since the 2nd patch, WR screens still don't work at all. I call about 10 bubble screens a game out of my custom air raid, although about half of those I audible out when the defense spreads the field to cover all the WR's. When they don't honor the WR's though, I run that play and get at least 5 a play. My favorite formation is running it out of Quads, I put Justin Blackmon at the quad spot specifically for that purpose and he dominates.

You can't run the bubble screen against any defense, it is one of those plays you audible to when the D shows a certain look or call in the huddle with the intention of audibling out of they cover. Don't force it.

As for how to throw it, use the stick to directional throw towards the line of scrimmage as your QB looks. So if you throw it left, press the stick right. If you throw it right, press it left. It helps prevent that stupid twist animation.

Re: Figured out why WR screens and bubbles dont work

Actually, I found one WR screen play I've had solid success with, but the key is reading the defense to ensure you can exploit them. The play is:

Few keys:
1.) Ensure the WR on the screen is a very fast guy, so he can turn up-field quickly after the catch.

2.) Let the blockers get in front of the WR before you pass. For this screen, there are THREE blockers to block for the WR, meaning you should easily out-number the 1-2 defenders your opponent has.

3.) Ensure the other WR's lined up next to your primary receiver aren't manned up with other defenders. If they drag other defenders with them, abort the play.

4.) Chances are the WR, being a primary target, will have a CB on him. Judge the distance the CB is from the WR. Four scenarios here:
a.) If he is close, it's press coverage, and the screen wont work. You lose.
b.) If he's far back, then he plans to back-peddle or is playing conservative man. You win.
c.) If he's medium distance, don't take any chances - he may still play close. You lose.
d.) If he isn't lined up perfectly with the WR, then it's likely a CB blitz. Your win, unless the CB takes a lucky angle to the ball and swats/ints it as he's blitzing you.
e.) The CB zones back into a deep coverage. You win.
f.) The CB zones the flats. You lose.

5.) Because of all these shenanigans, I highly recommend setting an audible button slot on this WR screen play. That way you can switch like crazy to easily diagnose zone, man, CB commitment, etc. It's highly defensive dependent, so don't run it unless you can exploit the defense with it.

This all might seem like a lot to take it, but if you pull off the play, it's an easy 10yds, minimum. Two times, I took it 80yds for a TD.

For the most part yes. But sometimes the blockers tend to go for the defender upfield rather than the one closing in right in front of him, which is really frustrating.

As a coach mode player using the air raid playbook, the WR Mid Screen is a staple of my playcalling.
