Icon3 OFFICIAL OFFLINE ASSOCIATION MODE SUPPORT

MODS PLEASE STICKY THIS.

let this be the place that people post their ideas, suggestions, complaints & concerns for association mode. ALL OF THEM. we need an "offline-association-movement"!

association mode is a HUGE deal to a LOT of NBA2k supporters & i HOPE that next years installment will have a large focus on association mode. not neccessarily the bells & whistles BUT fixes to ongoing issues like all players averaging all 82 games, MPG being skewed, insane trading, bad GM logic, rotations not being able to be set by something OTHER than overall rating for CPU teams & more.

please post ur concerns &/or fixes in this format:
* the complaint
* the "why"
* the suggested solution
or just post an idea or post that you are in support of an association mode movement

as great, SIM & AUTHENTIC as the game is, for association-guys like us... al lot of things are null & void if they dont properly translate in THE ONLY MODE WE PLAY. some things TRULY do make that mode UNPLAYABLE to the SIM-HEADS that this game is suppose to be marketed more to now.

re: OFFICIAL OFFLINE ASSOCIATION MODE SUPPORT

  • stars (role set to star) average between 32 & 34 MPG which cause their stats to be skewed & cause their morale to take a hit, FORCING them to want to leave team
  • all players playing in all games
  • bench usage slider in coaching profile section does not work (has NO effect either direction)
  • too many trades
  • when controlling all 30 teams, if you set all teams to CPU except one for draft; you still have to control ALL teams picks during draft
  • players sign too long of contracts
  • rotations reset when starting association mode
  • commentary not mentioning CAP as stars on the their perspective team which is dissappointing when using a great draft class from a great CREATE-A-DRAFT CLASS feature. to draft a player & build him up & not have him be mentioned...?
  • overall more depth added once you get past year 2 & 3

ON BALL DEFENSE

I seem to recall a preview (or perhaps 2k themselves in an interview) saying that it was a point of emphasis to include an option for mandatory on-ball user defense. I took that to mean that it would automatically switch defenders for you..perhaps i misunderstood this, i take it this isnt an option in setting up OA's (i havent set one up, but play in one where on-ball d is "encouraged")? Wonder why it was omitted?

  • the complaint
    • -cpu cheat when decide to win and it's impossible to contrast it
  • the "why"
    • - for cpu % shots made in the paint is always over 60/70 (Felton that jump over Nenč, for example)
      - for user % shots made in the paint is always under 40 (billups block Dirk?????)
      - % cpu's shots on 23' sec is 100 (even if contested)
      - on turnover cpu always manages to recover and stand in front of the shooter, either of player that run (Gallinari that run more than Ty Lawson and recover 9 feet?)
      - all teams play the same way, there is no difference between the Lakers and Pacer
  • the suggested solution
    • -tune down shot in the paint for cpu
      -adjust system/script of block
      -tune down shot contested for cpu
      -....
      -adjust different gameplay of team to distinguish the difficulty of playing against the Lakers or against the pacer

re: OFFICIAL OFFLINE ASSOCIATION MODE SUPPORT

Wow great thread! I'm a big association player and an even bigger one right now with the My Player problems pre-patch.

Of coarse I complain you can't put legends in association .You can with the export team workaround, but you can't change age (Like they made an NBA return) and there stats are erased o it's like they are coming in as a rookie. Right now I have 98 shaq on the Celtics with his 2k11 skills like he never retired ,but hes still in his 20s. I had to make his potential extremely low so its as if he is a veteran player and not a young player that keeps getting better.

Also last year I did a 82 game season with the Clippers. I liked that I got a real NBA experience with 7 game playoff series and all ,but by around 52 games I lost intrest. I could sim games ,but I just lost all progress I had made. I turned off auto save and simmed and Blake Griffin came in like 5th in Rookie of the year. I changed teams and simmed, he wins it. What gives? It's not my skill because I don't beat the crap out of every team, with the default roster we usually narrowly won games, so its not like I was playing Rookie/Casual. I played on Superstar/Default sliders, 9min quarters, 11min simmed games.

It would be awesome if they implemented some key game feature were in a 82 game season you would end up playing around 30 games a season so the season would go by quick and you would still post realistic NBA stats (No 14 games played in a season) and maybe in Key Games players would have double player progression or a big win would start them on a hot streak of winning.

re: OFFICIAL OFFLINE ASSOCIATION MODE SUPPORT

Simple solution is stop allowing the rotation minutes to reset once you enter Association Mode. Why is this a new bug that showed up in 2K11 and wasn't patched and somehow still made it in 2K12. It was a NEW bug in 2K11. And it still wasn't fixed. This shows me how much time was put into this mode.

Re: OFFICIAL OFFLINE ASSOCIATION MODE SUPPORT

I think team logic needs a major overhaul. When it comes to signing, drafting and trading for players.

For example we shouldn't have to see the Wizards with John Wall draft a Point Guard number 1 instead they're either draft the best available position of need our try and put together a package for the pick. Same for signing, no Celtics team with Rajon Rondo committed to max money should then go and sign Brandon Jennings for max money. For trades please for the love of everything holy overhaul this system. Teams should have a mindset where they have certain players as untouchables (the Bulls with Derrick Rose for example) and not trade for a player they're already stacked for at that position. To many times teams have like 4 PGs, 4 SGs, and like no backup Cs or PFs or hell no true players at that position (Glen Davis at center anyone?) team building logic just needs a complete overhaul. No more Manu Ginobili for Mo Williams please, make teams smarter.

Also like teams to fall under certain categories;
Rebuilding, Developing, Playoff Contender, Championship Contender.

Rebuilding teams would be those really bad teams (no offense) the likes of the Bobcats our the Timberwolves for example that are currently trying to build towards the future. These teams would value their own 1st rounders as extremely high and like wise value other 1st rounders of rebuilders in high esteem. These teams would be more focused on getting young talent for the future than getting someone who is on his last legs despite being rated highly.

Developing teams would be those that have a couple of good player(s) and are now trying to find thermals from the bottom of the lottery into the playoffs. A team like the 76ers, Nets, Clippers for example teams with talent that are now aiming to make that jump into the playoffs. They value their 1st rounders less than Rebuilders but more than Playoff Contenders. They focus on getting there young players better in the hopes of making it into the playoffs. These teams would tend to make economical trades for example to rid themself of a bad contract or getting a piece.

Playoff Contenders think guys like the Hawks, Grizzlies, Trailblazers for an example. These teams aren't quite at a championship level yet but they are doing everything they possibly can to get their. These teams already have a solid core and now focus on either getting better from within, or making a trade, or signing to get themself to that upper echelon. These teams are very careful and don't do a lot of things that can throw of chemistry, likewise they aim to make the big move(s) to be a champion.

Championship Contender would be the last category. These are your power houses, the teams that have a legitimate shot at the title year in year out. The Lakers, Heat, Mavericks come to mind. These teams probably already have their core and now focus on getting complementary pieces to support their teams. They have almost no value for their 1st round picks and will do what's best to keep themselves competitors.

Lastly I think is actual player logic. It's not terrible per se but it could be better. Guys should want to go to certain teams depending on what category they fall under, chemistry and lastly the contract. Just like how guys have dream teams they'd want to play for based on the situation that's what also should happen in game. Chris Paul shouldn't feel inclined to sign with the Bobcats because they offer him a huge contact especially since they aren't a championship contender let alone a playoff contender. Players should have a minimum threshold for signing like Chris Paul would require the team to at least be Developing for example before he'd sign but then another guy who is far younger doesn't care about the situation. These preferences should also affect whether a guy wants to be traded to a team for example this would make trades more strategic. Sure I could trade Dwight Howard to the Timberwolves for a ridiculous draw buy because the team doesn't meet his criteria he didn't want to play their and the Wolves don't want to make the trade. On the flipside if he cares but if his addition after everything they give up makes them a Playoff Content for example he'd be ok with the trade.

Re: OFFICIAL OFFLINE ASSOCIATION MODE SUPPORT

Couldnt agree with you more about ALL of that. It seems like in my experience the Lakers will try and build the next Kobe ,but the Toronto Raptors give up all hope and just stack up 5 PGs. I actually try and change teams to sign players and give those teams a strong core so they will build up and be fun to play against. I really hope that 2k patches overall Association logic instead of making us fight with a broken system until 2k13. Even when I think the game makes a smart decision, it is in the end Muffed up. The Celtics signed Steve Nash when his Suns deal expired. A pretty smart decision in real life. Nash makes his last run at a ring and mentors the young Rajon Rando, however the 2k Celtics sign him for like a 13m deal.....
