I am a few season into my career mode and I have not had any of my players retire, am I just getting lucky or do players not retire in this game?

I can't give you an absolute yes or no, but I lean towards yes. I had Michael Ballack for half of my second season, and after the season ended he disappeared. I'm assuming he retired.

Do you get the "replacement regen" when someone on your roster retires? That happened with FIFA11 ...

They do retire. Not sure what club you are playing with, but eventually, when a player gets to around 33 or 34, at the beginning of the season, you will see an icon next to his name and you will not be able to resign him.

I believe the youth academy system has replaced the standard regens that happened in FIFA 11.

I started a career with the Chicago Fire. They have Pavel Pardo. After the first transfer period he informed me that he was contemplating retirement. The last game of the season, he informed me that he was gonna retire and would like to play in that game. So yes players do retire.

On my current team, I have 2 players that when I go to 'sell player', it says 'will retire at contracts end', so i have no reason to sell them as i know their contract ends either this year or next. Only once in my career though did i notice a player retire. it was odd too cuz he was 34 or 35, and was a great FK specialist, but he never led on he would leave or retire, and he just was gone. He always was fatigued so i only subbed him on for the last 30 mins of games or earlier if I had a FK i felt I could make with him and nobody else.
