Madden 12 Draft Class Import: The Breakdown

Updated video with splash,

Just in case some of you don't go into the Roster section, I wanted to keep you up on my latest project. Normally every year I make a set of Draft Classes and a up-to-date Roster file after the Draft, but this year I thought I breakdown exactly what goes into the work behind it all and shed some light on the New Draft Class Import Logic of Madden 12.

I started this years Draft Classes with the same expectations as everyone else, wanting to find out how great this "New Draft Class Import Logic" was. I can say that at first I was disappointed just as a lot of you were, but after hours of number crunching I found out exactly how Madden decided to Import Rookies from NCAA.

So what was my first step in creating the Perfect Draft Class? Well it was the same as everyone else, find a accurate roster with accurate player names. After testing periodically I decided to go Mustangs84/community roster for 360, but suggest looking into Luvtotha9s rosters for PS3. After downloading these rosters, I knew my first step was to take every player that was not a senior and change them into a true sophomore. This is the only way to get the most accurate 2012 Draft Class, and not have to worry about players leaving early that decided to stay in school. On that note, over the course of the next few weeks we will be adjusting any underclassman who decide to declare for the NFL Draft who haven't already. I know some of you are thinking that changing underclassmen to Seniors might mess up age when importing to Madden, well it won't because age is actually set to be random with majority of incoming rookies at 21 or 22 years old.

The second thing we did was test, test, and a little more testing. We imported draft class after draft class and took down all the rating in NCAA and then again once the player was in Madden. We took averages from each player, at every position, for every rating, and came up with some pretty solid data. We found out that when EA Sports and Madden 12 stated that they implemented "All New" Draft Class Import Logic, what they really meant to say was...

PHYSICAL RATINGS WILL BE TRANSFERRED OVER AND POTENTIAL WILL BE SET BY PROJECTED DRAFT ROUND SELECTED

What do we mean by physical ratings? Speed, Strength, Agility, Acceleration, Jumping, Ect. So now you might be asking yourself, "what ratings are decreased when importing players?" Well we can answer that for you as well. All players will see a decrease in Awareness, which is expected. Want isn't expected was the extent of the decrease, which compared to the average Awareness Rating in NCAA 12 didn't give us what we liked to see. We found that on average a players Awareness decrease around 15 points, but when your average Awareness in NCAA for Seniors or Elite plate is in the mid 90's we ended up seeing a lot of rookies with Awareness in the low 80's. After some research from past Madden Ratings, we couldn't find one rookie with an Awareness Rating over 70. So understanding the average decrease we decided to re-rate every player in NCAA 12 to a 70 Awareness Rating and only the Elite or projected top picks to start at 85.

Once we made all the adjustments to Awareness and made sure we only had draft eligible players coming out in our draft class we did more testing. We noticed one type of position that seemed to consistently project a majority of it's players a top the 1st and 2nd rounds. This set of players came from the Defensive Line position and have anywhere from 10-15 players projected to go in the 1st round alone. Again we went back to the numbers and found that going back to previous ratings we saw high Tackling, Power Moves, Finesse Moves, Block Shed, and even the occasional pursuit ratings. One rating that did stand out, was Play Recognition. Our research found that no rookie Defensive Lineman has came in with a Play Recognition Rating over 70 and based off that we decided to decrease the rating down to 70.

If you are asking yourself where you can find this draft class, you are going to have to wait a few more weeks so we can finalize everything. The good news is we have 5 easy steps to create the perfect 2012 draft class for Madden 12.

Step 1. Find an accurate re-rated NCAA 12 Roster

Step 2. Adjust all players not eligible for the draft to a true Sophomore

Step 3. Decrease all Awareness ratings to 70 for incoming Rookies

Step 4. Decrease all Play Recognition ratings to 70 for Defensive Lineman

Step 5. Make minor adjustments to who you think will be a Top 15 Draft Pick

Thanks for the time and see you next time,

Re: Madden 12 Draft Class Import: The Breakdown

Nice breakdown.

A couple additional questions you might be able to answer...

1) How many players per each position does the game put into each class?

2) Is it an absolute set number? And what is the rating range from NCAA that it will pull from to fill this number? (ex. all QBs between 89ovr-99ovr, or the 12 top OVR rated QBs, etc)

3) Is it possible to cut down on the # of FBs, Ks, or any other position if you drop their ratings low enough?

1. Off the top of my head I would say there is around 15 players per position. I think I had a class that loaded with only a handful of LG's.

2. I do think it's a set number and my guess would be around the Top 250 players. The bad thing is lets say there are 50 players all rated at 88 in NCAA, Madden doesn't always take the same players everytime.

3. We will be doing testing to get this number down, but on my initial tests I saw 9 Kickers, 9 Punters, and 14 Fullbacks. I hope to get this number down to 5 for each. Just need to know who the Top 5 are at each position.

Thx for feedback... something I remember some ppl did when tuning classes last year was switching some of the power RBs to FBs due to too many FBs being in the class when FB is a position of little value when it comes to drafting... the user would have to switch them back to HB after the draft concludes, but it was at least a constructive way of building more depth for the RB position. shrug.
