Morris Claiborne Wonderlic (do we have a draft thread?)

Good god. Claiborne got a 4/50 on the Wonderlic according to the NBC article. How the hell does this guy pass through college for 3 years?

And Vince Young scored a 6. The Wonderlic doesn't matter AT ALL. Sure owners have a preferred score (which, BTW, for QBs is around 24 out of 50), but they don't really care. As Young proved, no matter how low the score is, you'll get drafted high if you're good. And Claiborne is the best available.

No doubt he'll be drafted high regardless. I'm still hoping Tampa gets him, but I mean seriously, how do you get through college without knowing basic stuff?

First off, the only reason this was leaked was to embarrass him. It won't hurt his draft stock (or shouldn't, you've gotta be one petty gm to skip out on him after the 1st five picks). Maybe if he was a quarterback, this would be a story. But he's not and it's really not.

He was a a General Studies "major" for crying out loud.

Is he smart? No. Again, general studies major.
Can he play football? Yes.

Lol let's be real here. Do you really think that a starting defensive player for LSU learned anything in the classes that he may or may not have attended? I'm a fan, but I know how that world works.

It's not about getting drafted high, it's about what happens after you get drafted i.e. being a professional. I don't need a Rhodes Scholar on my team, but I need a guy who takes every part of this process seriously, and a 4 out of 50 means he just completely blew this off. For goodness sake, studying and taking the Wonderlic is part of your draft preparation when you go to places like Athletes Performance to get ready for the combine. I'm not saying I'd take him off my draft board off the strength of this alone, but it would be a definite red flag if that score is true.

And I wouldn't point to Vince Young as someone who rebuts that line of thinking. I remember when Vince got that 6 and everybody scoffed that it didn't mean anything. To me, it hinted at deeper flaws in his character. He should still have his face on the side of the building in Nashville. Instead he's a 28 year old backup looking to find his 3rd team.

I could care less. As long as he can cover and tackle, I'm cool.
