What happened to run animations?

I remember, pre-NCAA 11 release, watching this trailer and being content with the progress on the run animation EA-Tiburon had mo-capped for. And since then, we've gotten a little more variety, but not nearly matched in quality. In seeing a good hour or two of the early release of NCAA 13, it's regressed even more. I don't have video footage of the animations, specifically, but I haven't even seen the animation from that NCAA 11 video. So, what happened? Locomotion was a huge requested feature. But since it being a focal feature, in 11, it's gone virtually untouched, and where it has been adjusted, it's been for the worse. i.e. jukes, running animations, and defensive sliding.

I'll embed the locomotion trailer, in case anyone misses the jump. *Note the video goes on a bit longer than it actually is. Not sure why Machinima did that.

EA has been doing this for years. They remove things that have been in the game and then they add them again later and market them as some new feature.

What this make it's way back into the game next year.

To :41 on that video. This is why the running games sucks. Who cuts like that? You cut on the outside foot. Get some better athletes doing the motion caps!!

I remember that being a big discussion here. The guys doing mo-cap didn't look like the kind of guys you want creating life-like football moves and runs. But even so, I thought that run animation came out well.

Re: What happened to run animations?

The running, juke, QB throwing, interceptions, diving catches, and so on are all terrible.

Re: What happened to run animations?

See I am sure these guys are college athletes. I am fine with them using D1 Bench warmers or 1AA guys. The problem is they need more athletes period. The 430 catch animations they were hyping up is all from 4 receivers. Out of the thousands of WR's out there you cant tell me using 4 people is enough.

That video explains everything...why are a bunch of 5-10, 250 lb non-athletic, D-3 O-Lineman doing the mo-caps? Really? You can't get former or current NFL players to come do mo-cap? It's things like this that piss me off about EA. And I'm not an EA ***** at all, but they do stuff like this and wonder why the product is so underwhelming in the animation department. Now it all makes sense...good post OP.

Instead of putting in Barry, Tebow and all those former Heisman winners, maybe they should put time, effort and money into player movement. Or maybe just grab Madden's animations, combine them with yours and build on them.
