Why Is The CPU Unstoppable On Their Final Drive?

It seems like every time I have a narrow lead late in a game, the AI goes into beast mode. Passes they haven't made all game suddenly connect perfectly, my own secondary goes soft, and they always score with ~10 seconds left to take the lead for good. Why is this? It's really frustrating, and I'm super close to snapping the disk in half and calling it quits on this game for good. Has anyone else noticed?

Re: Why Is The CPU Unstoppable On Their Final Drive?

You win some, you lose some.

I don't believe in CPU "beast mode" or "comeback codes." I think what just happens is the CPU becomes more aggressive, so that makes it appear that they're in some sort of comeback/cheat mode but in reality, it's just because they're actually TRYING to make the big plays where as before, they were playing conservatively.

You see it in real life all the time; when a team is backed into a corner and have to make big plays, they do it. Almost any time a team goes down 14-0 early in real life, they score on their next drive. Or at the end of games, teams that have struggled all day to move the ball suddenly, at the end of the game needing a score, drive right down the field when they HAVE to.

It's just simply a product of desperation and becoming more aggressive with the play calling when forced to do so. Also, you may not realize you're doing it, but you may be altering your defensive play-calling as well in those situations, becoming more conservative, fearing giving up the big play.

Re: Why Is The CPU Unstoppable On Their Final Drive?

I am split on this. Last night I played IU and I was tOSU. I was up really B1G. Their second to last drive they went off. Connecting on everything. My DBs did some random dumb things they didn't do all game. They got the TD to a TE that did nothing the whole game until then.

They get the onside after my guy kicks it straight to the kicker. BUT, they go back to dumb play calls. Running random options and terrible passes resulting in a punt and their last drive. It can be frustrating but it happens in reality. Ask Wisconsin last year and this year.

There is too much funky stuff going on with this game HUM-CPU mode. EA seems to be getting this more wrong as each year goes by.

Re: Why Is The CPU Unstoppable On Their Final Drive?

Just started a new dynasty as the OC for a 1* Teambuilder team. I was up on Stanford 40-21 in the last 2 minutes of the game. After that, they were just unstoppable like they should have been the rest of the game. They started off with a 60yd TD pass, converted the 2pt, recovered the onside kick, then marched down the field for another quick TD. I decided just to sim the kickoff and luckily got the ball. They still had all 3 timeouts and stopped me. I had to punt with about 20sec left. I decided to watch the final play of the game that they would have to go hailmary. In true fashion, the WR jumps above all 3 defenders and wins the game.

I was lucky enough to be beating this team (and that far ahead even) but to lose the game like that was a hear-breaker.
