let me spot upf for a mid range jumper please.

I've noticed that often times when i'm in mid range, if i just hold the shoot button for a midrange shot(not even pushing the stick towards the basket), it results in my guy charging into the lane for a layup or a dunk. Has anyone else noticed this? It's really annoying and it almost reminds me of how back in the day when 2k had those lame animations that would suck you into a defender to posterize them. It seems to be more prevalent on the right wing though. Also it seems like when this happen i notice more sliding and my guy gets like a speed boost for that animation.

I can't stand this, and there have been times where i've had this happen and i got a three point play because wade charged in and did a double clutch dunk through a defender. It's ridiculous, i don't want that happening, if i want to spot up for a mid range shot, let me. And wade doesn't even dunk the way he does in this game all the time(but the exaggerated dunks are another issue). I think i might have a video of this occurring also.

I don't think there are any sliders that can fix this as far as i know. This is pretty annoying though.

Yes. I have noticed this. It is BEYOND aggravating.

Btw, have you ever noticed the REVERSE of this effect also?

ie. When you catch the ball somewhere in space / mid-range / or at the elbow... with absolutely NO defenders between you & the rim.... YET YOU ARE COMPLETELY UNABLE TO DRIVE TO THE BASKET??!?

It's as if the CPU AI determines that... you were just toooo Wide Open.. so they MUST insert a FORCE-FIELD between you and the basket, which allows the CPU defenders enough time to hustle back into position, just in time to see you force up some ridiculously awful 'clunker shot' animation.

If we are open at midrange, it only takes 2-3 footsteps to get to the rim with a layup, or dunk.

But instead, too often we get forced into these (wide open) stutter-step into a triple-pump-fake, arms flailing, wild-@ss jumpers taken 15-18 feet from the bucket, because our feet got locked to the ground, since gravity itself just got MULTIPLIED until a CPU defender can recover on defense.

This nonsense happens all the time in close games vs. the CPU.

And the big problem is.. ALL of these events feel completely random.

If we stand in the very same spot on the floor...
- Sometimes we can hold the button and launch a mid-range shot.
- Sometimes we can hold the button and get a charging layup into the paint.
- Sometimes we are surrounded by a forcefield, and get prevented from driving to the basket at all.

Pulling up for 3-pointers and driving into the paint consistently work the way we expect.

But trying to pull of step-back jumpers, spotting up for midrange jumpers, driving to the basket from midrange does not work consistently, as expected. (Keyword: consistently)

...I miss when the circle button was to shoot & square button was to dunk in old bball games.

Pretty sure that was just Live....

I notice that this mostly happens with the stick...don't notice it as much with the button...

I wonder what the solution would be....do you guys think the take off window is too far out? I remember in 2k8 thought it was way too close...

I wish they'd make the square button shoot jumpshots, and the R-Stick perform layups/dunks. It would give you a little more control over what you wanted to do exactly.

This is easy for me to say though because that's how I've always shot the ball (button for jumpshots, stick for everything else). There might be an adjustment period for others.

As for the problem the OP mentioned, I've seen this occasionally, but I don't see it very often. Other than making sure you're absolutely still when they throw you the pass (or allow yourself to come to a total stop before shooting), you might try shooting with the square button instead of the stick. That's the only other difference I see that might explain why I haven't seen this issue as much as you.

*EDIT: I saw the "not moving the stick towards the goal" part but missed that you are using the button to shoot. In that case, I don't have an answer.

That gets on my nerves too. But what really sucks in when I try to shoot a mid range and it slides me to the 3. My new player's mid range is 90. My 3 is 66. So instead of a easy 2 points I clank a 3

Yeah, i used to use square to shoot and the stick for dunks and layups, but ever since they changed the shot stick, i use mostly square.

Yeah, i know what you mean. And does anyone remember back when you could point the stick in a certain direction to control what type of dunk you wanted to do? I think it was straight forward for a normal dunk or your signature dunk, right for power, left for style, and back for reverse dunks. They should of kept it like that, i get annoyed with my guys doing ridiculous over the top dunk contest dunks through traffic.

@RogerBlack, i know how you feel, but i don't think this is a way of the game cheating(i do know the game cheats though). This is just a really badly designed function of the game, as i've said before, i've had this problem benefit me with wade doing some double clutch reverse dunk through 2 guys and getting an and 1 out of it, and i still didn't like it.

this. i wish they would go back to that. maybe move the flashy pass to r1/rb and have the l2/lt be a dunk modifier to choose what kind of dunk you do. i also hate that you cant do a layup while holding sprint. i got a dunk blocked yesterday because my guy decided to do a cockback one handed dunk toward the help defender instead of an easy lefthanded layup like i wanted to. but if i wasnt holding sprint i wouldnt have beat my defender.
