Loans

Trying to learn more about the workings of soccer. Can someone explains loans to me? What type of player should you be looking to loan out? When should you considering taking a player on a loan? Any other general advice is appreciated.

Loaning is the ability to rent/loan out a player for a short period or a whole season. There is an ability to the player for a certain transfer sum which is decided by you.

You should be loaning out players who are young but with relatively bad ratings. So they can still have playtime at an other club and grow. Otherwise you would have to play a lower rated player than your sub just to make your players grow. Although that is what most people do. You should be renting players who are old but have still a good rating. So they can add something to your team but when they go down you don't have to deal with consequenses(retiring etc.)

I don't like to loan out my young players. Normally i loan out those from which I know i can make more money on when i sell them next year. For example a Munir at Barcelona I would never loan out. I like to get attached to the players i play with.

I hope this makes things clear.

Re: Loans

It really comes down to which club you are rolling with. If you play with a big time club, generally speaking a club with a higher payroll and thus more players and/or better players, loaning out players is beneficial because obviously you can't rotate in 35+ players consistently. Letting younger guys get playing time somewhere else is better then them sitting on the bench for a year (or half-year, for a short term loan).

If you play with a smaller club, smaller payroll and less quality players, loaning players to come play with you is an affordable way to plug in guys to help you reach whatever goal you have in mind. For example, if you are in the top tier of whatever league you happen to play in but you have a bad season and get relegated, loaning players for a one year push back to the top tier is probably a great idea.

Obviously big name clubs loan players in all the time, as well. Sometimes it's just to see how a player fits in without really committing to serious money on the guy. Or to fill in one specific position for a season because of injury, star player wanting out, etc.

Hope that helped somewhat.
