Just a personal opinion and observation.

I have recently DL this game. It is an amazing, fun, and the most realistic golf game I have ever played. The most fun I have had is building my personal course soon to be published. it is called M&M's Country Meadows... I have not played that many games OL yet and have not participated in a tour or tournament. I have played enough OL courses to get a Handicap but it says it is 0.. So I don't quite understand because because I usually shoot bogy golf for 18 holes.

Now for my observations and thoughts.. I love this game for the realism, Yet when I look at some of the scores and stats from the OL courses, I can't believe what I have seen.. Many many Scores of 40 under for 18, An ave of .65 puts per 18 holes. that would mean a few holes in one, or several chip ins and only one put per hole.. HOW can that be fun for anyone. In real life, you couldn't do that in a life time on any course anywhere. Where is the challenge. If I could play this game that easily, I wouldn't waste 1 second of my time on it. PLUS who wants to compete in tournaments against players like that. That would be like playing a 5 year old against the best golfers in the world. Don't make sense to me.. But that's just my opinion.. I simply want to play Golf like I play in real life and play against players like myself.. What your opinion..

Admittedly, I haven't done the "research" that you have regarding -40 scores and putting averages, etc etc.

But I'm a part of tgctours.com and yes, I see very low scores, but I wouldn't call them impossible by any means. And I definitely wouldn't use the 5 year old against best golfers in the world comparison.

This game isn't the EA boosted games. No one is hitting 400 yard drives and knocking in every putt within 15 feet because they have the "line" vision on. Everyone is on a level playing field. It is a pretty true simulation and like I said, I don't know what you've seen, but I've seen and been around really good players at this game, but nothing I would say is "impossible" by any means.

Those that are exceptionally good at the game use math to get that good. They take into account the wind, elevation, draw/fade, shot percentage, club loft, etc. They compute all that into a formula for every approach shot. Me, I don't have the patience for that and I go by gut (I take all that into account as well, I'm just not going to "compute" every other shot I take). And for me, it's served me fairly well.

I would suggest you play as much as you can, shoot a lot of different shots, and you'll undoubtedly improve.

Look into joining a tour put on by the makers of the game, or tgctours.com. Go through Q school and get on a tour. Some of the best players in the world play on that tour but you'll find a tour that suits you and your game.

And btw, the guys that run the tgctours.com are mindful of cheaters and have taken steps to both catch them and kick them out. And, the only real way to cheat in this game is w/ a modded controller that allows you to hit the ball w/ a straight swing path every time.

So, play the game and practice as much as you can. Don't let the crazy low scores deter you.

Re: Just a personal opinion and observation.

Thank you for a great reply. I appreciate it. As I said, haven't tried much OL and only play with a friend of mine when I do. .. But will give the your tour a try. I am hoping they will create members only Country club on line.. Kinda like a Madden FB league.. Someone would be the pro of the club and he would decide who can join.. Using the handicap system.. for league play. The course would be open to the public for anyone to play, But to play on the league you would have to be accepted and could be kicked out for rule violation.

As far as using a controller that is modified to hit straight. What the hell is the point of playing the game. Why would you want to do that. To me, finding ways to out smart the game is just totally stupid. Could someone really want to win that bad to take the true enjoyment out of it.. ???? Well to each his own.. I just want to play an honest game of golf, based on my own skills. Yes, using your brains to figure out distance, wind and other attributes of this game is what it is about. We do that in real golf, But I don't have a mechanical gismo to make me hit it perfect every time. Wish I did.. But then I wouldn't be here typing.. I'd be teaching golf somewhere where its warm.

As I said in the beginning, it's just my personal opinion and observation.. I don't play in tours or tournaments in real life. Although I do play in a league for Senior citizens, That's the kind of game I want to play.. Golfers just like me, fun, casual, relaxing, challenging, hit as many bad shots as good ones, a nice cold beer or soda, and maybe a good ole hotdog at the turn with a bunch of my buddies.. Now that"s living. God I need summer back.. LOL

Re: Just a personal opinion and observation.

I'm the same way. I played on Clambakers for Tiger Woods 08 (PC) and all aides were off. No wind readings, no wind readings, no locating your target. You used the caddie book and that was it. You were free to move the camera anywhere on the green though.

Despite being terrible at this game, I'm shooting to my real life handicap of 10 - and that's with the green grid on, not sure how I would fair without it, lol.

Re: Just a personal opinion and observation.

I agree with the original post. TGC game is too consistent. Once you get used to using the controller it is too easy to hit straight drives, irons, and putts. I consistently hit -10 to -12 for a 18 hole round.
I have started playing with all aids off, no scout camera, no approach camera, no aim reticle and it is way more fun. I might try turning off wind meter next. This game would be much more rewarding when a par on a hole is good. The way this game is played in tournaments, a par is a bad score, you need birdie or better to compete.
With all that said, this is a great game and I really love what HB did with this game.

Re: Just a personal opinion and observation.

Thanks guys. Any advice is appreciated. Yep, I agree. it is a great golf game. And I love the suggestions. Will try some of them. I don't really want to be as good as some of these guys. I still get a thrill when I get a par.. Like in real life. I think the best game I ever shot in TGC is 4 under for 18 on one of the beginner courses. I was so nervous, I could barley hold on to the controller, of course at my age, I'm thrilled I can hold the controller.. LOL.

I am anxious to try some of the creator courses and hope some will try mine. Some people have complained of the graphics, but I think some of these courses are just beautiful. I get a kick out of looking at some of them and trying to vision the peoples imagination that went in to them. I think after reading some of these post, I will stay away from tournaments and just play golf my style and enjoy the game. Why get frustrated trying to compete with people you have no chance of competing with. A couple of my buddies come over and we play head to head. They are on equal grounds with me. Maybe I'll put a post up on the GC board and see if I can find some golfers to play on line with.. Again, thanks for all the reply's and suggestions.

Yeah, I play with all aids off now, including wind - do it, it's so much fun to know that you felt like you "Nutted it" and the "gust from the gods cost you" - please know this movie reference...

That's awesome, I haven't been under par finishing yet - my best score was a 75 (all aids off mind you) - and in real life, I'd be ecstatic and buying us all beers.

Stick to what you enjoy. How hard would it be to create a tour that is all aids off? I imagine that would be a really, really, fun tour to play on.

Eitherway, I will probably play in the TGC tour that's posted. I'd imagine I'd use all aids off as well. Then that way, if I ever make it in the top 10 or something - it'd be "all me" - and feel pretty doggone awesome.

Your philosophy is just like mine.

I wish there was a separate leaderboard for the purist guys. (All Aids Off)

Those low scores mean nothing to me when they are playing with green grid on etc.
