Would you like to see a rewind feature in MLB The Show?

I've been playing Forza 6 and it has an optional rewind feature that's pretty standard in racing games these days. Essentially, if you crash or make a bad turn and lose the lead, you can rewind the race to do that part over again. The penalty for toggling this option on is less XP and credits. I imagine such a feature is supposed to alleviate frustrating at putting 10-15 minutes into a single race and losing at the end due to one bad turn. I personally turn this feature off to get more credits and XP.

I don't know enough about real racing to know if this somehow distorts the simulation-quality of racing games, but how would you feel if such a feature were in MLB The Show?

Imagine you are hitting in the bottom of the ninth. Your runner gets picked off, or you were right on a fastball and it just pops up frustratingly. Would you use a rewind feature to do the at-bat over again?

I would never use a feature like this, but would you mind if it were implemented into The Show or any sports game? I personally don't care if other people use it, but I would like to see a penalty in the form of decreased stubs or something.

It could make the game more popular for casual players who get frustrated over not being able to hit the ball consistently or whatever. Hardened veterans would probably not use it.

In essence, does casualizing a game hurt longtime fans of a game?

Should be no such thing as a rewind in ANY game imo. It doesnt happen in RL, so why should it happen in a game. A pitcher cant take back a pitch, a batter cant take back a bad hit, a racer cant take back a bad start or restart, nor can he take back a bad angle into a turn or a bad pitstop. I personally think it is the worst thing that they ever put into games. But again, that is just my opinion. Live with the choice you made lol.

Oh lord no. No rewind. Just NO.. Nope....Nada... Negative ghost rider the pattern is full.

Yes in my opinion casualizing a game hurts hardcore fans. The developers have already taken to much out of this years game. Add in any more arcade or casual features to this game abd it will quickly go the road of 2k.

There is already to much of a trend, in my opinion, in catering to casual.gamers. I would hate to see this series or for that matter any of the big sports titles start adfing in features that would make them more casual.

Make other titles for these fans, Super Mega Baseball for example is a great title. But lets leave the "sim" level of sports games "sim".

I have had so much fun with the Forza rewind feature just taking out the AI by slamming into their rear tire and if I miss, mulligan! Am I going to try that in my car IRL? Heck no but it's convenient to have in Forza if I'm trying to cut a turn just right or for practicing drifting (which I still admittedly suck at). The argument that "it doesn't happen IRL so it shouldn't be in the game" is one I'm going to have to disagree on if we're talking about anything except simulation games, which does not include this game.

Traversing back to the topic of this thread with that being said, no, I don't think MLB the show should have a rewind feature. While it's a neat idea in concept for casual fans, I don't think it would bring much to the table.
Furthermore, learning from the consequences of mistakes is a part of life so long as you can figure out what went wrong. Once I stopped using directional hitting and moved to PCI I've found the quality of my contact to drastically improve and I feel that the newcomer would too as it forces you to watch the pitch. Mistakes are part of the game, and I feel that the dynamic difficulty does a better job of meeting the challenge of addressing casual players by gently easing them into new pitches better than a rewind system would.

Granted this is the first iteration of MLB the Show that I have ever played after coming over from 2k11 so I may not have the "experience" that some of the other forum users here have, but after playing the NHL series for so long I can say a feature like this would likely not be appreciated unless it was designed strictly for practice mode, which already fulfills this need, I believe.
I can see where you're trying to go with the idea but I just don't think it would work in a game like MLB the show.

Re: Would you like to see a rewind feature in MLB The Show?

I think part of the reason why a rewind feature makes sense in a racing game is because while playing a racing video game it is impossible to have the same kind of awareness that a person would having driving an actual car. Games try to alleviate this as much as possible but checking you sides and rear FULLY detracts from being able to look forward, unlike in a real car. Sometimes, there was just no way to be aware of the turn or that car in your blind spot, so a rewind helps compensate the player for the kind of mistakes they make because they are using a controller not a real wheel.

Meanwhile, your awareness is not reduced in MLB the show. Some might argue that's not true when it comes to pitch speed, but other than that I'd say you have even more awareness in game then you would in real life. A rewind would function as nothing more than a cheat button.

If this option was added, I would not use it. Ever. Never ever.

About the only times I think I'd want to use this are when glitches/bad animations impact the game significantly.

You don't - considering real hitters have keys to read on the pitches that don't always translate to a video game. Real hitters don't have to deal with monitor/TV lag, netcode lag, stuttering/freezing, etc.

Not to mention the physics of the pitches (especially slow pitches which are ridiculously slow, and knuckleballs - they move in odd ways but some of the breaks I see are WTF inducing...even when I see some of the movements of "classic" knuckleballers like Hough or Candiotti on youtube and such)

And glitches/bugs that impact the game...it wouldn't be "cheating" to undo something that happened because of a software error/glitch. Heck, I fouled a bunt with a pitcher with 2 strikes and he wasn't out for whatever reason. I "made" him strike out because he should have been out, but if that happened with me pitching - what's more of a "cheat" - a pitcher not being out after bunting foul with 2 strikes or just redoing that play so maybe the glitch doesn't happen?

You could use it to cheat - but, then again, you can not save a game that you lose, you could in-game save and reload that save if you lose, miss your no-hitter in the 9th, change sliders midgame, etc...There's a lot of ways to "cheat" if users are so inclined.

I'm not "pro-rewind" but "it becomes a cheat button" - I don't think that's a compelling reason against it, especially in a single player mode.

Bad home plate calls, haha.

Instead of rewind, they could fix the slide/tag system
