NBA 2K17 has become a game of Cheesy Player Builds instead of Skill

It's not even about skill anymore. It's about who can find the cheesiest player build first to exploit. The stretch 5, the sharpshooting PG, etc. I made a shot creator SF, and it's literally pointless. Not good enough at any one thing to be effective enough. No handles, rebounds can't compete with bigs, no outside game. Mistake. So I spend $40 in VC + countless hours getting badges = fail. My basketball IQ with other player's builds would be lethal. But what can I do when my guy sucks and I already invested in one player. Oh yeah, spend $50 or $100 etc to create a new one. Brilliant.

The problem with this game is how ridiculously, unreasonably long it takes to upgrade a player. I guess 2K isn't too worried about player burnout. They're going to choke the consumer for all they can. They need addicts or nothing. To compete or have multiple players, you're literally going to have to spend $200 or have no life whatsoever, grinding all day. At what point does enough become enough as far as exploiting the costumer?

2K thought having these varied player types would bring more parity. No it's just making people find and target ONE player build that is the best, rendering the rest not very useful. How many lockdown defenders have you seen, etc? Exactly.

2k just tryna get that VC. That's really the truth. They don't care about your experience, just your pockets. Just don't play the game, or it will continue to become worse and worse unless NBA live can somehow come back.

That exploitation of people's time or money or both is just smart business.. Is it right? Who am I to say. But that's how you capitalize your sales for sure. Some just have throw-away money and don't care, others are addicted, others are too impatient, etc etc. So they keep spending. It's the same with all games that have micro-transactions.. they want the grind to be excruciating to the point where you're actively searching for an easier way out. That's when you cave and spend money to expedite the grind.

That's just the way of gaming nowadays in general. Compare Madden's Ultimate Team modes to 2k... they are the king of this because they have an unofficial monopoly on NFL video games. People have no choice but to play their game or nothing at all in regards to NFL football gaming.

And the community has devolved into a bunch of entitled 12-year-olds who literally complain about everything until the games are patched into oblivion, until the game is no longer enjoyable for about 1/3 of its lifespan.

I didn't buy vc - already a 86 - and I personally feel you I haven't played much at all. Maybe you should actually try to play before spending. Just saying (don't take it personal - I'm just salty I can't spend on vc). Nah but truthfully I hate buy your my player system. Please don't complain about it taking long if you bought yours and didn't actually play to get him up. Leave that to the people who actually play to judge. And as I said above - I felt it didn't take long at all. Way faster than last year actually. BTW - I'm a lockdown defender.

You're right that it's imbalanced, but link up w/ some good people and you will get wins.

I'm working on a lock down defender, but it's gonna take some time to get his rating up. I am planning to play him more as a park player (6'9 SF max weight, so I figure I can lock 1-5 down and still have 'decent' 70 speed), and use my C as pro am primarily.

Your dude can't suck that much, real talk, esp if you grinded him to max. You might not be optimal, but you still should be good. Like I keep saying, I think it's fun to be the builds that people don't pick.

Non "optimal" builds still have benefits. You say your SF is trash, yet Im sure he can smoke bigs with his speed. You just need to find what works and exploit the **** out of it.

Real Talk. They should make VC refundable when you delete characters. This cookie cutter world of impossible to balance nonsense is the direct result of the obfuscation of meaning during character creation and the inability to revert choices. What does a little yellow triangle up mean for me in terms of stats +2? +5? etc... Clearly in an ideal world with a game balanced to be fun every choice would be a viable one but as someone who picked post scorer I can tell you that isn't the truth. Furthermore it's ridiculously ludicrous to expect players to know what they want to play for 150 hours or (99$) right when they create their first character.
