Can't Get Into PC Gaming

I can't be the only one, can I?

I was about to drop some serious cash on building a top of the line gaming PC but then I thought, how can I justify this?

A little about myself: I get very excited about "toys" but rarely use them to their full effect.

-I have a Switch that I only use for Zelda, even though I have spent a few hundred dollars on games.
-My PS4 slim I basically only use for PES, The Show, or The Witcher
-My Xbox One S I have literally not touched since the week I traded in my Original Xbox One for the slimmer model.
-I have a New 3DS that I bought for a month vacation in which I used it for about 30 mins on a plane, and then have not touched it since.
-My PS Vita I used for about a month, off and on... have not touched since.
-My iPad Air 2 I have used for browsing and board games, but even that is rare.

I also have an older gaming PC, and iMac, a rMBP, and an older Macbook

What I am trying to say is that I buy a lot of stuff and then don't really use it.

Then I read an article about how PC gaming, in the long run, is cheaper than consoles. As such, I figure I should get rid of my PS4 and Xbox and use my Switch and PC for all gaming needs.

The problem is that my current PC can handle a few games but I find it difficult to go into my computer room to play games. Hell, getting friends to want to play PC games vs console is very difficult as well. Even using the steam link and being on the couch doesn't convince them to give it a chance.

Hell, even I have a hard time trying to justify PC games. I bought all my AAA titles on consoles so I won't buy GTA, Fallout, Witcher, etc on PC cause, even with the mods, it's been there, done that. As such, I am left with cheap indie games that I keep buying but can't muster the strength to play them.

Am I alone in this? Why the hell do I keep pricing out PCs and trying to convince myself I need these things? My time would definitely be better spent learning photography or photoshop or something and making a little cash on the side.

WTF is wrong with me?

Nothing wrong with you sir imo. Maybe age? I run through dry spells where I just lose interest and it comes back. The good thing is I like having the toys around for when the urge/desire to game comes around.

Re: Can't Get Into PC Gaming

You sound so much like myself. I've struggled with the ideal that I need a gaming PC. Like you, I buy just about any new gaming gadget that releases. The only thing I play regularly is my PS4 Pro. I had priced a high end gaming PC for around four to five thousand, but could never pull the trigger.

I feel PC gaming is the pinnacle of gaming based on some of the games and graphics I've seen. But! The never ending cycle of graphic cards that seem to release every few months is a turn off. I feel I would be tempted to keep upgrading to try and have the best graphics and performance available. I would go broke or crazy feeling like my $5,000 PC would be outdated in 6 months.

One day I will pull the trigger, just don't know when and how much I'll spend.

Re: Can't Get Into PC Gaming

I'm in the same boat as you. I always think about building one but when I ask myself do I really need this? I'm satisfied with console gaming and don't need the greatest graphics.

I have limited time to game too since I run a business so a quick game of 2k and I'm good for a couple days. I do have a 4k tv now so I'll get the Pro in a couple months.

I am getting a new IMAC to edit video and photos and I recommend the hobby, its very satisfying but it is very expensive once you get into it and buy a camera, lenses, and you'll want to get a drone! Since its for my business I can definitely justify it.

As for getting excited for new toys, you definitely will get that feeling building up your camera equipment and getting different and better photos/footage.

One thing I do want to make is a racing cockpit for racing games. Maybe will make a custom pc for that or just get another xbox/ps4 for Forza and Gran Turismo.

Uh....Yeah. Seems like a pretty easy decision to not buy a gaming PC if you only enjoy playing 3 games. Not sure why this is such a struggle for you.

Re: Can't Get Into PC Gaming

tried PC gaming one Time in my life, spend a $1000 on a PC gaming machine and lost interest so quick, thank Goodness I was able to make almost all of my money back selling it.

I'm a console gamer for life, wouldn't want it any other way.

Re: Can't Get Into PC Gaming

I am 98% PC gamer. Different strokes for different folks. If you are big into online gaming, then stick to consoles. I am more into strategy games, city builders, empire builders and war themed games, which there are a TON of on PC. I really only got a PS4 for MLB The Show and sports games. Bought an Xbox One for Xbox exclusives, but haven't even turned it on since probably December or January.

I always hear people talk about graphics card and new CPUs come out every other month. True it does, but it don't mean you have to buy it. I see people buy $2,000 4K TVs every year......If you one of those people that have to have the latest and greatest, then it don't matter if you are a PC gamer or console gamer, you going to spend a ton of money simply because you have to have the latest and greatest.

That isn't my personality. Still rocking the OG PS4 and the 2nd 500GB model Xbox One. I have no desire for the S or the Pro. No desire for the 1TB version of each console either. Just like I have no desire for the latest and greatest headset.

Re: Can't Get Into PC Gaming

OOTP is the only PC game I need. I'd love to see it make the jump to Playstation. I've never owned an XBox (though my son has) and if by some miracle OOTP became an exclusive to XBox, I'd buy one so fast it'd make your head spin.
